Imagine you got into your seat at the theater, the columbia pictures woman appears, and you hear a familiar tune.

this epic theme returns for the reboot? Now I'm not talking about keeping the original trilogy's WHOLE score, I'm just talking about THIS theme, opening up the film and that's it.

I'm proposing the idea because it's simply just so iconic and so... spiderman. and it can't be topped, and hasn't. How would you have felt if asm just opened up with this theme?

That would contradict the entire meaning of a reboot.

no it wouldn't. ONE track from a score being brought back wouldn't contradict the entire film. and you didn't even answer my question :oldrazz:

Danny Elfman's theme is one of my favourite superhero themes out there, just because it captures the majesty and modesty of being a superhero. It fit Raimi's Spidey perfectly.

For TASM though, I think it was definitely necessary that they had a different composer but I don't think James Horner was the right person for the job at all. With Webb's Spidey being more 'cocky' than Raimi's and more 'fun', I think it would be good to have a more suitable theme; something as majestic as Elfman's theme but something that also captures the more 'animated' and lively version of Spider-Man that we'll see in TASM2.
I'm looking forward to hearing what Zimmer and co. come up with for TASM2 and hopefully their theme for Spidey will be just as memorable as Elfman's (<< which I think is pretty hard to beat anyway!)

I honestly wasn't even aware that the Raimi movies had a theme.

I don't see the point though. If anything, it would probably just confuse people.

I respectfully disagree. When I hear the theme I don't immediately asssociate it with raimi's films, I just hear spiderman. And I honestly don't think that theme could be beaten.
This.

Plus, I never found Elfman's spider-score very memorable. It was always more of a suite with different themes glued together.
the guy right above said otherwise, and I'm sure millions of others would too. I'm not talking about the whole score, just the main theme.

What you think the tune that sounded similar in the beginning of all 3 films were???

and yes, people may have been a little befuddled at first, but,

1. they all knew they were walking into a spiderman flick and
2. once the movie began rolling, they probably wouldn't be confused anymore.

the point is, my point was, is that that theme just simply couldn't be beaten. there wasn't a tune as iconic as it in asm and i don't think hans zimmer can come up with one to top it in asm2.
True and true.
statement and disagree.

That theme is the signature of the Raimi films, and it would contradict the meaning of it being a "reboot." There are enough people who think TASM is actually SM4 (believe or not, they do exist), so I think recycling the theme would have just made it worse.

I don't doubt it, but if those people watched the films and still think it's sm4 then that's like, a problem.

And I get that the theme is signature of the raimi films, but I feel it should be signature of spiderman cinema (which in my heart I believe it is).

I doubt most people noticed it (some people here didn't for God's sake).

Still, it's like using the Donner Superman theme in Man of Steel. Yes, it's iconic, but a reboot is a reboot. This isn't even in that league.

I don't think it would've been so bad if they did that tbh. but hey, if no other spiderman music should be associated with any other spiderman medium, why was that asian lady playing the 60s spiderman song in sm2? as well, they played it in the park in sm3

You can call it the true Spider-Man theme, which is fine. The John Williams Superman theme IS the Superman theme, so people will always look at that as his signature music. However, just like TASM, they had to come up with a new theme song for the reboot. Why? Because its a reboot. It has no association with the previous franchise.

Williams's Superman theme had better chances of having been kept as it is infinitely more popular and recognizable. But they knew what a reboot is about.

no need to keep repeating yourself picard. but the theme song for asm wasn't nearly as epic as the old one, and I doubt hans zimmer can top it.

and my thread isn't for asking, why didn't they keep the old theme (obviously I know why)? it's for asking how would you have felt if you heard it as the movie opened for you at theaters, which I put in the op

The reboot isn't worthy for that theme. It deserved that forgettable main titles it got.

If the sequel is better than, sure I'd like a better score. Something that is more sci-fi, since the reboot seems to be taking a more science fiction route than the previous ones, which was more 'heroic'.

Stop playing with my emotions :csad:

Forgetable? Growing up with these films that main theme made me excited for the movies, by far one of my favorite main themes for a movie, Forget the fact that the series was rebooted, this theme fits well with any incarnation of Spidey.

Either way i understand and agree with the reason they did it, it's a reboot, they needed a new identity, though i barelly remember any music in the new film series, so i guess that if Elfman's theme was forgetable, then the new one is a whisper.

Lol okay then..

I've already stated that I never grew up with the Raimi films... And that includes the music. I guess it's kinda neat, but I think it's good for their movies. No matter what people tell me, I'll always be fond of TASM's music.

If I had to pick between the two, I'd pick Horner.... Though I have bad taste in music :P

I mean as of now I'd still go with Elfman. But I am so excited to hear Zimmer's score.
