Okay, you've gone back in time and are now calling the shots on the 1970s live action spider-man tv show. How would you make it better? Change the supporting cast? Modify the costume? Maybe even completely recast actors even, remember they have to be from 1978. Whatever cool stuff you want to do it has to be within their seemingly limited budget. Discuss.

heh.. amazing.. for the heck of it, if I had "full knowledge" of everything up to now:

I'd give him the black costume.. do the "venom" saga within TV budget..

I'd introduce Mary Jane, Gwen Stacy, Betty Brant, have them be either bugle employees or ESU students/workers..

get rid of Captain Barbara.. replace him with Jean DeWolff..

More Robbie and Jameson at the Bugle..

more super powered criminals
the only one i recall was the telekinetic diplomatic envoy in curse of rava

Definitely would have had the whole "with great power must also come..great responsibility" thing. Iirc, the show completely ignored that and Uncle Ben altogether. Peter gets his powers and decides to become a superhero...just because, i guess.

I also would have included the entire supporting cast. I have no idea why the producers decided to ignore one of the things that made the comics so great.

Would have used more villains from the comics. Even with a low budget, they could have had Chameleon, Kingpin, Silvermane, Hammerhead, Mysterio, Bigman and The Enforcers, etc.,....Hell, with a little imagination, they could have Included Green Goblin and Doc Ock. How hard would it have been to just suspend Goblin's glider in place, and have a screen behind him to simulate flying? They did that successfully with the Witch in the Wizard Of Oz 40 years before the Spidey series...Ock's tentacles could have been stop-motion or even just operated by puppeteers.

These three things were sorely missing from the 70's series, imo...

I would add Super Villians from the comics. I would make JJJ yell much more, like he does in the comics. Another thing I would add is Spdiey using his webs and jumping on walls more. I also would add Harry, Flash, Gwen Stacy, and Mary Jane Watson. Betty Brant would defenitley have to be added to. Another thing is I would make Peter get bitten alot more like he did in the comics. Alot of those things were not in the show and, IMO, they should have been because those things are part of Spider-Mans' universe.

heh.. get bitten a lot more? by who? morbius? man-wolf? lizard? :cwink:

The 1970s show imo doesn't need saving. It's lack of comicbook stuff helps make it what it is. Different and unique, especially for its era. Seeing iconic supervillains in this show would have made things worse and ruin any chance or shred of fond memory.

Ignoring Uncle Ben was a big problem with that show. It was pretty much taking the heart out of the character, giving him the drive to do it. Even with a 70's budget, I'm sure they could have found a way to make GG and Doc Ock look cool.

I'd like to have some good Team-Ups. The Hulk had Thor and Daredevil (dressed in all black). So yeah, for me, definately have some special guest appearances from some cool Marvel heroes....Punisher, Cap....etc.:o
