HT Improvement(s) on The Dark Knight – 12" Batman (TDK Version)

after searching around for proof of this I stumbled upon this board with pictures of a figure someone just received with the smaller chest and stomach. it is about halfway down the page.

http://sideshowcollectors.com/forums/showthread.php?t=42665&page=7

Actually, I am 99.99% sure zeelhar's figure is first batch. The second batch mod rumour only started couple days ago, from the toy-world board, where a poster in HK has supposedly bought a TDK Bats figure that looks different straight out of the box.

Looks like Hello Beautiful posts there too. His pics are on the first page

EGADS!! Someone has stolen my pics?!? Just kidding, I'm a regular there and at Mediworld. :)

Hmmmm, interesting.

Im wondering which one i will get

I brought it off ebay 10 day ago, from a seller who had it in stock.
So considering its in stock it might be the first of a latter wave, or more of a left over from wave 1....being the weird person i am, i def want the best one, and would rather not have to do the body adjust myself : /

I agree with you. The idea of me even thinking about modifying the figure scares me. I imagine I would break the figure and waste my money.

aha yeh, the idea of having to cut the suit....ugh i dont even want to think about it, if worse comes to the worst and it is the fatter one, ill get e refund and seek out a better one : / wanted it now though

thats it there, and from the quick look, even the worse HT batman looks better( med's is still gd though)

On that Sideshowcollectors thread-link, I like the Bathead mod to make it look a little bigger, adding some stuff on the inside of the head. Then it looks more like Bale :yay:

I'm a little confused, what did he do?

From underneath the head, he pushed in some plastic material into and behind the cheeks to make the face rounder, as it really is in the movie.

Also, starting in the http://sideshowcollectors.com/forums/showthread.php?t=36086&page=231 to http://sideshowcollectors.com/forums/showthread.php?t=36086&page=235 , they show a lot of mods to make it streamlined, more realistic, which was my main point from the start, that to pay $200 for a figure then subject it to mods just to make it more accurate is somewhat of a pain.

But still, that might not stop me from buying it. I'm actually thinking the modification process will only add to the pleasure of owning it, sort of like "bonding" with it, as car enthusiasts say.

I clicked on the first link you posted jocal and that guy's modifications look so good but his sides looked too thin. I really, really like the neck modification. It definitely adds more to the spirit of Batman when he faces down.

This is the exact effect for the Bathead

These two are the same exact scale, so if you decide to do the head mod, you'd get the exact effect

ugh... that round head mod is terrible. I've seen many other pics with it and it does not look right at all. Kim Jung Mi's sculpt is fine just the way it is.

Maybe, but you can't beat the original, can you? :yay:

aha i would say yeah it can. Then normal head looks alot more like it than the modded one does. There is no realyl good example of the fat head being visibale like that in teh entire movie, due to it being in shadows and not having the light on it. I see that modded head as a negative :brucebat:

I think this thread has taken nitpicking to a new level. We've started with what's arguably the best 1/6 superhero figure ever, taken it apart, cut bits out, stuffed bits into it, and frankly ended up with something of marginal (if any) improvement. I prefer to spend all this time with my Stax headphones, favourite music on, glass of whisky in hand, Batman close by on my shelf, wondering how on earth Hot Toys were able to produce something so fantastic.

Nothing wrong with nitpicking, since this is a $200 figure, one would think that the maker, in this case HT, would produce a figure that would not have to undergo any mods just because of its price, to make it more screen accurate. Granted that they probably thought the figure they produced is already a great one, and it is, no doubt about that, but considering the mods made by the members here to their HT TDK, goes to show that HT could have produced something better and more accurate.

Had they got it the first time, then there wouldn't have any need for them to review their work and to do a version 2, which is what they have now. Had they got it the second time, then there wouldn't have had a need for their owners to mod the figure. Just for this reason alone, nitpicking is justified, but that's JMHO :yay:

Over at the Sideshow Freaks forum, the HT TDK are getting a lot of breakage on the hand pegs, and that's not even due to mods. Their owners break them while attaching the other hand replacements. Man...

dont get it then lol stop it now :cwink:
just wait till med's TDK figure, but i know nearly everyone is happy with there HT TDK.

Oh I'm still getting mine for sure :yay:. I just thought I'd post it here so everyone will be extra careful with theirs.

As you know from my previous posts, I tend to scrutinize every figure, don't want to waste money. IMHO Medicom's figures have never been able to get to the level of Hot Toys or Takara. Comparing the HT and Medicom TDK, at least on the pictures, Medicom's costume is more accurate but their Bat head sculpt is a little off. Medicom's Bale sculpt is too doll-like. They have to do more to match HT.

With beer belly too.

Guess that proves my point - that for an expensive figure like this that you have to modify to bring to satisfactory level, at least for the owner? There lies the hesitation...

Then when it comes in December and I buy it and mod it and break it? :csad:

Someone from Boston is selling his Hot Toys Batman. He took pictures and its posted here

http://cgi.ebay.com/Hot-Toys-Batman...39:1|66:2|65:12|240:1318&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14

The whole body is humongous. I'm beginning to think the pictures posted in earlier pages in this thread are all modified and did not come straight out of the box.

IMHO, the lighting in those photos seems to be the main culprit to the humongous look to the figure. It isn’t that bulky in hands as those pictures depict it.

Yes, it does have the “beer belly” look inside the box when it was new and sealed; however, after a couple of poses and playing around with the figure, you can completely reduce and control the “beer belly” for a slimmer and more accurate look. :cwink:

Well, I have to ask, is this the original model, or the newer revamped one?

Zeelhar's figure did look thinner than the guy from Boston. I was suspecting that light could've been a factor in its look.

I trust Spidey since he has the figure.

Hey Spidey, inspite of my misgivings, I'm still poised to get it when it comes out in December, plus yours and other's recommendations convinced me. But I don't think that figure on eBay is a victim of bad lighting. Looking at the sideview pics, that chest really sticks out, so far out in fact that there's a significant gap between the chest plate and the torso area. That's the whole point of the mod, decrease the true-body chest size to get the chest plate nearer to the body.

Again, that's the point I've been making. It's a pity to have to spend so much money on a figure then have to go through modifications. One would think that for a maker to charge that much, his product would have been closer to perfect than it is.

But hey, I'm still waiting for it. One more month to go...:yay:
