Register for free and listen to whole link. So when you hear Marvel has a 150 million dollar budget it's = to 200 million for any other major studio. Hear why?

i'm too lazy, please tell me what he says about TIH :(

stupid thing doesnt work... no sound

Does this mean Marvel will spend 200 million on TIH???

WTF is going on???

I think AD was hoping for an announcement there meant to be on the DL... Anyone here it?

It just means because of Marvel's position, they own the rights to their own characters, and their partnerships it can make bigger films with less money. Plus the fact that they get the revenue directly from the toys sales as well to offset the production, etc...It's a much safer bet and better play for Marvel to make it's own films cause it might appear to be losing money but they're really making a fortune. If Marvel had Ghost Rider they probably would have kept it a Summer release. Yeah it's box office receipts would have probably been lower due to competition but it's toy and video games sales would have been much higher. So while Sony will make a profit on Ghost Rider...Marvel would have made much more of a profit and doesn't have the same upfront expenses as the other studios do with their own characters.

Way to post cryptic news and leave everybody hanging. :down

There's a link to the conference. All you have to do is register for it which takes 10 seconds and listen to it or wait for the damn transcript. If they link doesn't work for you I can't help you. It worked for me fine and Mirko heard it as well.

I just checked it again and it works fine.

In 5 years I see Marvel's movie studio filing for bankruptcy much like the comics division did in the 90s.

Not only that BFury but Marvel's studio division won't ever declare bankruptcy. It'll never need to and it would never apply. LOL The loans are non-recourse so they don't need any bankruptcy protection even in the worst case scenerio if you look at the way they structured it Marvel itself is never financially at risk whatsoever. The only risk would be after 5 years if all the films as a group failed to enable Marvel to pay back the loan...then the movie rights for those failed films would be given up. :) Then that's only if Marvel doesn't want to use the other streams of revenue to keep them. Besides Marvels films have a huge advantage of getting extra money pumping in from toy sales, video games, 3rd party advertisers/sponsors looking to use their characters, merchandise, etc...Good luck doing that with the average film. Every single one of Marvel's big budget films have made a profit...All of Marvel's studio films have a budget range with most being around 100 million+. All of the film Marvel Studios makes will be no higher than PG-13 and have prime release dates. All of the films between 2008 and 2013 would have to have a combined loss for Marvel to lose the rights. LOL Never happen.

You might want to do some research first before attempting to analyze Marvel. LOL Do you know why Marvel went into bankruptcy??? No? Read "Comic Wars" by Dan Raviv so you can find out how Perlman raped this company and neglected the characters. This is not the same Marvel as the early 90's. Not even close. Read my post above this one too.

Thanks AD. The conference was very insightful.

But when Cuneo says they don't get any money from the other studios' dvd sales, is he talking about Spider-man, FF and X-men dvd sales?

I thought they got at least 5%.

Yeah, that's true... How about they just bump that up to a solid 1 billion (that's $1,000,000,000) and have scientists create a real HULK instead... LOL!!

a 200 million $ budget is too small??

for what the movie should be yes. With that you wont get much explosions and cgi environments.spideys budget was higher then that and the main characters were guys in suits.
