Action-Adventure Hunger Games Prequel | Lionsgate

It looks like its going to be star studded. May the odds be in their favor.

So basically most of the adults from the trilogy (quadrilogy for the movies if we're splitting hairs) are going to be in this. Interesting.

I’m finishing up the reaping portion of the new book and I’ve already gotta know who they’re going to cast as this Drusilla cenobite-looking *****.

I can kind of imagine Laura Dern in Big Little Lies mode.

EDIT: Oh ****, I missed the Emma Thompson rumor. I could see that too.

Jesse Plemons as a young Phillip Seymour Hoffman would be a slam dunk, but I do think he’s probably too old. The age Plemons is now, Plutarch would be in his sixties by Katniss’s time. I guess being a resident of the capital, there’s means to turn back the clock a bit, so it wouldn’t be too far fetched, but idk…

The way Haymitch describes Louella, I’m reminded of the younger sister in The Black Phone, but given that movie came out in 2022, she’s probably aged out of the role.

I saw someone online who is well-versed with the books that her character is from the Seam, a very poor part of District 12, and they’re described as usually having olive skin, dark hair, and gray eyes. A bit ethnically ambiguous, as her race is never explicitly stated, but definitely somebody not white. Considering her character’s age, they might just cast a relatively new or unknown actor for that character, but probably similar to Rachel Zegler in the last film and get a Hispanic or Native American actress.

Hoffman's son is right there. Might be a little tender since Plutarch was one of his dad's last roles but if James Gandolfini's son played a young Tony Soprano then this is within the realm of possibility.

Plus he just worked with Francis Lawrence on The Long Walk.

So, I got to the chariot scene in the new book last night…

Also I’m gonna say Diane Lane for young Mags.

it's Haymitch's Games so a lot of them were around.

i like Elle as Effie

Might be something more obvious to the book readers, but as someone who only read the first Hunger Games in that trilogy, I’m kind of shook that Beetee is supposed to be significantly older than Haymitch, considering Woody Harrelson’s a couple years older than Jeffrey Wright.

Anyway, Beetee… Kingsley Ben-Adir?

That’s a good choice.

I saw someone on the r/The Hunger Games subreddit suggest Justice Smith for Beetee and I can’t unsee it.

I can see the progression of someone played by the former who went through the Hunger Games growing into and eventually becoming the latter.

Woody was about 10 years older than Haymitch was supposed to be when he played him but with the character being a professional alcoholic, him looking older than he actually was made sense. :o

I considered Smith too and would be all for it, I mainly hesitated bc I thought he was a touch too baby-faced to play
the father of a kid who’s old enough to be in the Hunger Games.

I mean, he’s 29, so just a couple or a few years short of the character’s age in the book, but still close enough, and the facial hair helps a bit. I think the audience would buy into an actor looking like him being the father of a 12-year-old.
