In Florida there is the Sunshine Law which basically means elected officials can not meet or talk or write about things which might come up at meetings. And now I have a husband and wife on council together.
Heres a little background. I was just re-elected to the City Council were I live. This is my 3rd two year term and i'm currently Mayor Pro-tem (vice mayor essentially). The former Mayor has won his seat back and will now be on council with his wife! A few years ago they were on council before they got married (though they had been living together for years) and I didn't think it was a good idea then.
Basically as far as I know since we are a city of less than 5000 people they don't prohibit family from serving together because the job might not have alot of people wanting to do it. However they both had people run against them the wife even had two.
So my question for you guys is should I bring all this up at the first meeting and tell them in the spirit of the law and integrity of the position one of them should step down?
