Back to the deathmatches...shall we?
they never left
Back to the deathmatches...shall we?
YepOh wow, I tied it up.
I don't try to assume that anyone is from my own country on the internet, lol. I have too many friends in foreign countries. :P
But I appreciate the correction. I knew that it wasn't Sunday like the Christian Sabbath day. The Jews have their Sabbath from Friday sundown to Saturday sundown, so Saturday is the day they don't go out and do stuff and observe "shabbat".
In any case, it's just... Important to recognize differences in people and not just assume everyone operates on the same sociocultural understandings as you.
So? Plenty of Christians work on Sunday. Just because your religion says you shouldn't work on a certain day doesn't mean the real world will allow you do follow that.

well so can you![]()
Having arab/muslim family members in the US is actually why I assumed Aziz, based on his communication style and nature of SHH forum, lives in a western country such as US.I don't try to assume that anyone is from my own country on the internet, lol. I have too many friends in foreign countries. :P

No, he can't. Sawyer is my rock. Probably in my top 5 posters here.
Guess where you rank?

As an international affairs major, I respect this post![]()

yes, he can. i don't care where i rank for you, ulcer
you just like having someone to insult, don't you
Are we unaware of how other cultures work? My assumption from speaking to him is that Aziz is Muslim. Therefore, his holy day is Saturday, so they get Friday and Saturday off, rather than Saturday and Sunday. I could be wrong. I'm pretty sure I'm right.
The Jewish Sabbath is also on Saturday evening starting at sundown.
So... Yes, cultural awareness is a plus in situations such as these.
It's Friday actually, the holy day is Friday.
Weekend used to be Thursday and Friday, back in September 2006 they decided to make the other day Saturday instead of Thursday.
Day starting at Sunday is something both religions share.
If one wants to make certain of something....If you feel you're being bullied and ganged up on in a certain thread, and keep posting in that same thread, it kind of makes it look as phony as Aziz not wanting to be nominated.

Not true. Plenty of US companies have scheduling requirements that supersede ones desire to take off Sunday. I myself (growing up in a Christian household) have had to work plenty of Sunday shifts. But I wasn't speaking of just what "your boss" says, but also ones need for money and countless other reasons that would make one have to work on their respective holy day. My point was simply that being religious doesn't automatically grant you the ability (and desire) to not work. Many many countries of the world have a recognized religion, especially lots of UAE countries where their official religion is Islam. Therefore, because they have an official religion, it would not surprise me that all the people in that country got that day off or were allowed to take that day off in observance of their religion.
We don't have an official religion in the US, but Sunday is a holy day for the majority of people here (because a majority are Christian/Catholic), so we tend to have it off. Even retail jobs are required to let you observe your religious holidays, so if you can't come to work on a Sunday for religious reasons, it's not like they can fire you. So yeah, the real world WILL allow you to do it, at least here in the US.
You're bordering on trolling. If you feel you're being picked on and insulted, then why spend all your time in this very thread?
Kind of makes it look like you're enjoying the attention.

It's kind of funny to have Arab/Muslim family, and then see someone try to give me a speech on being accepting of other cultures![]()
Linguistics/Language minor here, and almost went into international affairs, lol. Music major (mostly because it's too late to change it at this point!) but will probably focus on linguistics/language in a Master's program. I am thoroughly fascinated by foreign cultures (and my own) and deepening my understanding of people who are vastly different than me. I really dig the anthropological "holistic" approach (wow, no pun intended) and try to be open-minded and understanding about other people as often as I can. I don't always get it right. :P
