Hype Survivor Hype Survivor 29: Spy vs Spy - Day 19: End Game!

Wow, this thread exploded in my absence, LOL!

I'll leave the arguing for others, but I do appreciate Matt, Erz, and Cmill backing me up and trying to stop this character assassination Marx and Powder are attempting on me :)

As far as who is best of the rest, I am taking both myself and Kal out of this for now, and even if Kal wins, I'll let others discuss my place in the game. I'm not an arrogant person who is going to proclaim himself an all-time great. That is up to people who paved the way before me and who are actively playing. In my experience playing, I'd say Powder is among the "best of the rest." He has his flaws, and is a bit of a hypocrit on this, but he has a ton of strengths. I never played with the likes of Hunter, so I can't comment. I do see some potential Survivor greats in the new crop of the last few games, and there are two players I'd like to comment on:

NYS - I think you're biggest problem this game was lack of dedication. You've shown in my game and Hunter's that you're very clever. I really feel if you were 100% dedicated, you could win. You showed that by making top 4 in my game.

TEDDY - You're an early vote out a lot, but seriously, if you played a bit more strategy, you'd win easy. You seem to be waiting for Godot at times, and I think it's your only real weakness. You are great at being under the radar, but you are too under the radar to win. You have a lot of challenge skill you use at times, and you show you know how the game is played. If you connected yourself a bit better, I really feel you'd win a game. I mean, you're TEDDY. If you ever made finals, I don't see how you could lose. Everyone would love voting for you. Use that!

I think the issue for some is that they think this game is all about manipulation and backstabbing. My question to you is, why does it have to be? Above all else, this is a game about strategy. SF and I had two different strategies in this game. Just because mine was unconventional, shouldn't automatically make his better than mine. He practiced a tied and true startegy, that many have used in the past. I didn't choose to do that. Just because I have less blood on my hands, should not indicate that I played a lesser game or was "Under the Radar". I played to my strengths and worked very hard to stick to my principals. That was my strategy and that is what got me here.

This is ultimately for the jury to decide, and I don't disrespect your strategy at all. But, I of course side with my strategy, lol :cwink:

But if you win man, I won't be mad at all. You're a great player and most definitely deserve to win a game, whether it be this game or another should I end up winning, so don't take disrespect for what other people are saying in defense of me. I think some people are just tired of seeing people try and assassinate my character more than they are trying to disrespect you. I'm glad to have people willing to defend me right now, lol!

Wow congrats to Kal and SF on making it to the final two. Kal especially; this has been a long time coming.

I haven't followed this game closely, but it never fails to amuse me how much people complain about backstabbing when they themselves have done so in the past. Let it slide Kal and SF, let it slide.

But most importantly, I want to welcome fellow Canuck Alex the Great to the Miss Congeniality Club! In celebration, we will go eat poutine and apologize to every one who walks into us on the way there.

:lmao: This is why Wats is better than all of you.

Thanks Wats! :)

Wish you had played though :csad:

Thanks Doc! You were one of my first allies back in the day. I hope we can play together again in future games.

Perhaps one day...

Was that too funny? If so, I apologize :(. Please accept this giant bottle of maple syrup if you forgive me.

OMG YA!!!

Kal, we're going to backstab this fool, right?

I'll help ya :oldrazz:

You're playing next game, right Wats...it's gonna be a good one...JewHob and I would know ;)

Hey, I didn't win the game... so it's all cool :)

And I genuinely felt bad about betraying you guys. I thought, "Hey, I've never betrayed anyone outright before... why not Watson and Kal?!" And then I lost :(

I kid you not

So when exactly would the next game start? :awesome:

Heh you're right, we have had two already this year and we are only in August.

The jury is supposed to pick who they feel should win the game. Not who they like more. Many of the best Survivor players use a strategy very similar to mine. JewHob and Matt both won the last two games playing a similar game to what I did in this game. Kipobe has won 3 games playing this way. Holly has won twice playing this way. Why is it right for these players to manipulate the board, backstab the majority of the players in the game, but when I use the same strategy, I am somehow judged more harshly? It is a double standard to reward these players for playing a ruthless game and to penalize me for doing so.

When Matt won last game, he played a little of both ways. He did some major behind the scenes and backstabbing sure, but he kept his word and took the person he promised to the Final 2.

When Holly won, she pretty much told people when she was voting them off and when they were going. She also kept her promise and took her Final 2 Ally to the end both times.

I never had the opportunity to play in a Kipobe game except when he hosts.

CC, are you chronicling this?

I sent you the spreadsheet cause you were worthy. :(

i have a couple of days to fill in cuz it took sooo long for this game, but if you want to take back over the grid i won't object

yeah, honestly more than 3 or 4 in a year is overkill and hurts the novelty and freshness of the game imo

You do remember what you and Holly did to me right? I got no advance notice, so I think your defending of Holly is a bit moot if your trying to make a point about me. I saw the strategy in not saying anything to me. I let people know in all but 2 cases of the vote outs, and the only reason I didn't in the other 2 was because of concern for an outside source much like Holly didn't want me using an immunity in that game she blindsided me. I don't count the finals decision since that is handled a bit differently. It's not like I blindsided everyone.

i honestly don't remember. and i wasn't making a point about you.

as for the not telling people they're being eliminated, isn't that kind of the point? what's the point in having public council if everyone already knows they're going home?

Copngratz on both on making it through. I think both deserve commendations. I made my vote based on the smallest differential and not on anything concrete. I understand the backstabbing but that is part of the game and did not factor into my decision. Something else did.

I've missed the last 3 Survivors. I'm just making sure you are keeping up with it.

I just have a few things to say before votes are released.

First off I would like to thank JH, Erz, and SF for stating that I am up there as one of the best without a win. Especially you Erz as I do regard as one of the best to ever play so it means a lot coming from you.

Second, win or lose between both finalists I hold no grudges, and I prefer to forgive and forget. Although I still feel SF's play was underhanded, and unnecessary, I do feel some of my earlier remarks were also unnecessary and I do sincerely apologize for that. However, it was still fresh in the memory as I was just ousted and I still believe you had no reason for some of the things that you did in the game. I even sent a two separate pm's to Hunter and you that morning joking about how I hope to see the results before I go but I didn't really have any worries as I knew you were going to choose me. Regardless, what's done is done and I did vote based on who I felt played the better game IMO. My reasons may not match other players reasons, but it is still my right to choose who I felt should win.

Third, there was a comment about me belittling judges. I believe I have rather improved on that, especially this past game. The only time I said anything at all for a judged challenge was the Day 2 challenge, and even looking back now I hardly said anything. I do remember being quite upset when I saw the instructions to the judges (which was at no fault to the judges) for that challenge and then it became more clear why we lost. ie. they were told it had to be dark and noirish style (nothing to do with the Spy vs Spy cartoon and no mention to the players that we should just ignore the cartoon despite it being in the logo), and no mention that the Survivor theme being a part of the theme which is always asked. I remember being penalized more than once for not putting more Survivor representation in the the grids. When looking at the other tribe's submission you could have almost given the judges what they submitted as the instructions and say, "here this is what we wanted so judge them based on that." Along with other confusing mishaps during that challenge, it was a questionable challenge at best. Of course what is done is done and I don't really care anymore. The only reason why I brought this up at all was because Matt said I was too emotional especially with judges. I just want to reiterate that I have improved on this, despite my competitiveness inside me, and felt it was an unfair characterization since I have done hardly anything.

Sorry if my post seemed a little defensive. I thought it was trying to make a subtle point. We cool yo :word:

It's no problem at all man. We may have had differences as of late, but fighting doesn't change my opinions on people. You're one of the best active players, and I'm sure you'll win a game eventually. You're too good not to. I think Matt is right that maybe you should take some time off, though. But, I'm selfish and want you to play next game! :cmad:

The results will be posted in a moment but first the last 2 awards.

First we have the award for the most successful challenge player in the game.
