I,Docker, need help on buying a tv

i have a phillips 50 inch DLP. i love it so far, got it for Christmas

now the only thing i'm wondering is if updating to HD cables instead of the ones that came with it will really make a lot of difference

It's weird when Hype users seem to forget that Google exists.
I didn't know anything about HDTVs either...so, before spending a crapload of money, I googled and found many technology/entertaiment sites, and read a bunch of articles explaining what acronyms stand for, and outlining things to look for, especially for a TV to be used in conjunction with a PS3...and a bunch of reviews of the different brands, to compare them all.
Google = Awesome.

Why just last week, IN a thread about HDTVs, a marine said that his roommate "PCSed" and left him a TV...so I googled PCS, and found out that it means, "Permanent Change of Station", without asking him a single question.

At this time, I also learned about:

and the Potash Corporation of Saskatchewan.

I know to use Google. Sometimes I do and other times like in this thread I decide to not be as antisocial and ask people. Plus, I know there are those types that just love to inform someone or everyone about something their really into. Thought I might give one of them a chance.

cnet.com is a good place to go to get reviews and tips on what the different terms mean and what the resolutions mean.

I don't want a huge TV, so I may opt for a 40" Sony Bravia or Samsung LCD depending on the price. At that size, there isn't much difference between 720 and 1080, and we don't sit that close to the TV to notice it.

Looking someday to get a projector. I don't want a home theatre, dammit, I want a theatre in my home.

The only thing I'm not satisfied with right now is my home stereo system. I fell into the Bose is the ultimate setup trap and it doesn't have nearly enough bass for me to be satisfied. I'll opt for an Onkyo system next time around.

We're house hunting, and one of my "needs" is an extra room big enough for my theatre. I want to have a popcorn machine, movie posters on the walls, and I'd love to be able to come by some theatre seats too.

I have a buddy in San Jose that moved into a new house last fall that had the garage converted into a home theater setup. It's really, really impressive. He had to put a new projector and screen in it as the previous owner took those with him. But he's got it set up with all this great seating, a candy counter and popcorn machine, framed movie posters, and the interior really looks like a movie theater. Pretty awesome setup. And he has the most humongous DVD library I have ever seen anywhere. He puts his local Blockbuster to SHAME! To say he is a movie buff is an understatement.

Onkyo is a great, reliable brand that has the sound that I've been looking for. My bose system has a very clear sound, but like I said... the bass isn't enough for me.

As far as the projector... what's your price range? Because there's some great 1080p projectors out right now in the sub $2000 range. There's the Mitsubishi HC4900 coming in at $1995 with rebate and the Sanyo Z2000 at $1795 with rebate. 2 great 1080p native resolution projectors.

I haven't done any research lately to see what kind of good 1080p projectors there are right now. The last time I did, I was looking at 6-8000 bucks. Under $2000 would be fine for us.

I'd love to find a local theatre going out of business or remodeling. All I'd need is just a few rows of 3 or 4 seats. Popcorn machines are easy to come by, but I don't know if I would take it as far as the candy counter.

I thought of also adding an arcade where I was going to build an arcade style box and rig it for an XBOX.
