so i got this email about car-jacking, and this new way they're doing it a few days ago at work

Carlisle police officer said:
Be aware of new car-jacking scheme.
You walk across the car park, unlock your car and get inside. Then you
lock all your doors, start the engine and shift or put into reverse.
You look into the rear-view mirror to back out of your parking space and
you notice a piece of paper stuck to the middle of the rear window.
So, you shift the gear stick back into park or neutral, unlock your
doors and jump out of your car to remove that paper or whatever it is
that is obstructing your view.
When you reach the back of your car that is when the car-jackers
appear out of nowhere, jump into your car and take off!!
Your engine was running, you would have left your purse in the car and
they practically mow you down as they speed off in your car.
BE AWARE OF THIS NEW SCHEME THAT IS NOW BEING USED IN
LONDON/MANCHESTER MAKING ITS WAY ACROSS THE COUNTRY!!!!!!!!
Just drive away and remove the paper later! It is stuck to your window
and be thankful that you read this email.
I hope you will forward this to friends and family especially to
women! A purse contains all identification, and you certainly do NOT
want someone getting your home address. They already HAVE your keys!!!
JUST BE AWARE AND TAKE CARE IT WILL PROBABLY SOON ARRIVE IN YOUR AREA

anyhow, we all loged on got the email and read it, well, i didn't i got in late, but anyhow, i come in and they're all talking about and i ignore them, log on and read the email, now, everyone else was like "thats terrible" and "well i wouldn't be THAT stupid"(trust me she would be),anyhow, i read it and start laughing my ass off and at the end i turn around to my mate and say "my god! why didn't we think of that?!" and i got looks as if to say "UNCLEAN!!! UNCLEAN!!! BURN HIM!!!".

now, after reading the email what are your thoughts?

I should think I would notice a piece of paper on my back window, before I got in the car.

Their method is flawed.

If this happened to me, I'd be like:

"Oh my god, there is a piece of paper on the back window...hang on a minute, this isn't my car and I don't drive."

I would never get out of my car while its running. NEVER. Even when I warm it up I stay in there because i Fear that someone would jump in. Besides, I would notice the piece of paper anyways.

Dude. Most people I know check the mirrors before they even start the engine.

1. This urban legend is False according to Snopes.

http://www.snopes.com/crime/warnings/carjack.asp

2. You should always "circle check" your car before you get into it. Circle Check = walk around your car looking at your lights, tires, mirrors, windows, etc, checking for anything that might be a hazard to driving (toys under tires, junk stuffed up tail pipe, etc)

3. A lot of folks don't bother cleaning the snow off their rear window, I suspect they wouldn't take the time to remove a piece of paper either.

My uncle got his lap top bag stolen from his car once, as the theives thought there was a laptop inside.

Much to their disappointment there was only his underwear :woot::up:

They threw away the case, which landed in an elderly woman's garden, who looked at the tag to show where my uncle lived and saw his phone number.

He got his undies back in the end.

I seem to be a joke at everyone else's expense...
