I have a movie idea, need help.

I was listening to some music today. My favorite band, Brand New and I was listening to a song off their new album called "Noro". Which has a lyric that goes "And if we die, burn down the forest" which in return instantly clicked with Michael Caine's line in the "The Dark Knight" where he said they burnt the forest down.

Anyways, it instantly hit me that I would love to create a movie, based off of a veterns tale. Probably on his death bed or with a few of his old war buddies re-calling their most memorable war experiences. What he did, the effect it took ok him, mentally and physically. I'm looking for a mix of action and drama. Action of course being the flashbacks to the combat. The drama being the stories, the narrorations and the effects it took on him and his friends as they told their stories.

I was thinking, of course, having Michael Caine be the main guy because I just love him as an actor and probably Clint Eastwood. Wishful thinking, I know but, imagine how amazing that would be to see. Clint and Caine in the same room, giving their amazing talents.

Yeah, I have no idea how or where to start. Any help would be great!

I was thinking of this for the most part being a drama. Like, I was thinking about how in most war films and stuff, they focus on the effects it has on the war now and it's not really digging too deeply into the wars of our fathers and grandfathers.

I think the idea of redemption would be good. Them telling their story and how they started and now coming clean and being completely honest about the horrible things they done.

Something happens that helps them to make up for their previous acts. Or helps them reach some sort of middle ground with their views of their own morality.

It might be cliched just a little bit but I like the idea.

This sorta reminds me of an idea I had, only it was about an old superhero reflecting on his career as he was about to die. I imagined him being a stand in for a superman type character who had lived long enough to see the entire age of heroes play out, out living all the other superheroes, so he reflects on not only himself, but the entire rise and dying out of superheroes as a whole, as if it had really started with him in 1938 and ended with him in whatever year in the future.

It might be cool for your film to kind of do a similar thing as they did in TDK by drawing a parallel from Alfred's past life to assist Bruce in his current predicament.

Your veteran main character could perhaps get caught up in a "final adventure" of sorts with a younger character. Perhaps he is the last living member of a group that came up against a certain enemy back in the day, and his group was able to take care of business, but not without doing some things they weren't proud of.
Now, by whatever means, for whatever reason, someone calling themselves a new era of that group is rising, with the same goals/intentions. The police/govt/whoever are confounded, and the only one who knows what to do is this veteran. He is hesitant to say anything. The old group was able to eradicate the old enemy before anyone else knew they existed, but he doesn't want to revisit those mental battle grounds. Maybe play up that the vet is about to croak at anytime when he catches wind of this in his hospital bed. He knows he is about to die any day and contemplates just dying peacefully without saying anything, but he finds that he doesn't have any peace anymore.
He finally realizes that the outcome would be far worse if he didn't speak up though. So in whatever way, he offers as much help as he can, hoping to guide this young gun through this ordeal without making the same mistakes he believes he made.

Of course as the film progressed, there'd be the parallel flashbacks relating what happened to the veteran back in the day to what happens now.

Or you could make the vet a little younger (still older, just not "about to die any day now" old), young enough to actually get on his feet and help somewhat in the current conflict.

...Or you could set it slightly in the future and have some kind of injections that will allow the vet to get back on his feet and back into action, but they are only prolong his inevietable death long enough to help the current situation. Kind of a glorious redemptive countdown to his death, with a second chance to take care of a past problem in a way he doesn't have to be ashamed of.

I don't know, just throwing out some ideas. Hope it helps get the creative juices flowiwng a bit!
