And as a fan of this franchise since DBZ first started airing on Cartoon Network, I LOVED this movie. Being that this a comic book forum I will liken it to marvel's "Ultimate" series. It is different in a lot of ways, but also the same in a lot of ways. Capturing the essence of the source material while presenting it differently. Let me also say that I thought this looked horrible before I watched the movie myself. I was wrong.

I'm the opposite. I thought this looked decent and then I watched it and I thought it was completely horrible. Bad acting, lackluster special effects, terrible editing, underwhelming fight scenes, etc. And those are just my complaints as a movie fan. My complaints as a Dragon Ball fan extend much longer (Goku in high school, lusting after Chi Chi, wanting to fit in, etc). I'm guessing it'll be the worst film of 2009 for me.

The 70 minute version now playing in theaters in Asia. The U.S. cut will be 100 minutes.
in other words......... you saw the leaked video.
because the asian cut is not 70 minutes. the leaed video doesnt have th ebeginning.

:hehe:

According to BOM, the USA cut is 1 hr and 40 mins. The Asia cut was 86-89. Could be bad info, who knows at this point. Other than the fact the movie got pushed back two days...it's BO chances are doom.

100 minutes basically means 90-95 minutes without credits.

I've honestly tried watching this movie three times.......I just can't do it. All the negativity about this movie has gotten to me and I'll try watching it again tonight.

If I can't do it then I'll just wait for it to come out on the 8th.

I'm watching it now, and I'm upset at the fact that I just saw a pea sized capsule become a bike and a purple haired woman, yet Bulma's blue hair couldn't work... otherwise from that the film is terribly cheesy so far, but I'm intrigued and will keep watching

Did you not watch Dragonball? The capsules are a staple. And Mea;s hair is dark black, not purple. And to everyone else, don't you think it is kind of lame to bash it for bad effect poor fight and character development when you have only seen the butchered down short version? I'm guessing all 3 of those will be fleshed out way more. And about Goku in high school, this was the only thing that bothered me. But after his grandfather dies, like 10 minutes in, I think it is great. A perfect representation of Dragonball (NOT Dragonball z). I think that the fights were perfect for Dragonball. Anyone going in expecting huge epic DBZ fights knows nothing about Dragonball. The fighting was not even important in the beginning until fans demanded more of it from Toriyama. I hope there is a sequel, because I am sure we would see fights like in Kung Fu Hustle in a saiyen saga film. Also I would love to see a "Neo vs. Smith" type fight if they ever doo a Super Saiyen Goku vs. Frieza.

And anyone who complains that it is too cheesy obviously knows nothing about DB/Z, it is the essence of cheesyness.

And you really think they look bad? I thought they looked good, but I'm not going to try and convince you. Anyways, I still suggest that everyone wait until they see the finished film in better quality before they make judgment on those issues.

If this is a response to my post...

IDK who Mea is, but if you're talking about Piccolo's sidekick, that's not who I'm talking about, it was a lady on a computer screen, like a digital billboard w/ purple hair...

overall I think it's a good kids movie, and all that hub-ub about wanting it to be realistic, uhm, changing the color of Bulma's hair and gettting rid of animal characters didn't make the movie realistic, it still felt like one of those Spy kids movie, with a karate-kid twist

In retrospect the fighting was enjoyable, I just think the story could've been better-too predictable for me + and the character designs. I really liked Goku's look when he was in the orange and had his bang--though Chatwin doesn't work as Goku--IMO... I wouldv'e rather seen Justin Chon as son Goku, or a racialluy ambiguos character! (like Nathan Kress) as well as Bulma having blue hair (yep brought it back)

SPOLIER???-----The Oozaroo effect looked like a rubber suit, IDK if it was CGI, but it didn't look like it,-----END SPOILER

That lady was on a computer screen for a few seconds. She was not a main protagonist featured throughout the whole movie. Bulma's hair color is hardly important, at least they gave her the streak, which IMO was not even necessary.

so is Bulma having green hair.

Goku being in highschool and Gohan still being alive in the beginning of the movie is a perfect representation of Dragon Ball? I've read Dragon Ball quite a few times. I don't remember Goku being in highschool and I do remember Gohan being dead before the manga started.

Lol @ at the fights not being important in Dragon Ball. All Dragon Ball was was fighting and dirty jokes. Goku fighting the Red Ribbon Army...Goku fighting in the Tenkaichi tournaments....Goku fighting Piccolo and Piccolo jr.

TC is used to the American dub, which in itself fails to capture the essence of Dragonball. The Funimation dub contains a horrible translation, horrid music and voicework. So, if he liked that, he must have gone into the movie with very low standards.

How the heck is everyone watching this movie already?
