I kinda hope this movie bombs....

Similar to X2 after costing twice as much?

mmm hmmm... It will still make money... just not as much... I guess they knew that that's why they were willing to put up so much cash... they knew they were pretty much guaranteed to at least break even... it wasn't too much of a risk... and there are always people out there who will settle for less than mediocre and they'll of course buy the dvd thus helping this lunacy continue... I would rather X3 had never been made than this...

but because of the smaller budgets they made a total fortune on the first two...

I'm already seeing some people make the excuse for this movie that it was super-frontloaded on its first weekend. While yes, we can only expect to see at the very least a 45% drop for a movie that grosses 100 million in its first weekend, previous movies (and very recent) movies that have done the same did not drop this low.

Take Revenge of the Sith for example. That movie grossed around the ballpark in its first weekend (108 mill) and dropped only at 49% its next weekend. That movie had for the most part a very positive word of mouth. Then there's this movie. Yea I heard people say it was good, but the amount of people just bashing this movie is insane.

Obviously the insane deviations from the source material has hurt the movie. People have to remember, the people who give a movie repeat business, especially for franchises like this, Star Wars, and Spider-Man are fanboys/fangirls. You need to please them to a certain extent to make sure you please your repeat viewers. A lot of the fans have felt that the movie completely botched the characters and story of the Dark Phoenix (one of the most beloved comic tales). Even people who enjoyed it, said that they didn't like the alterations. However, they don't plan on watching it again. So go figure.

And its just not this movie's bold deviation from the source material that is hurting it. Its the A.D.D. concept of the whole movie. A lot of people say the movie is too short, and its really rushed.

I don't think the movie is horrible by any means, and who knows I'd probably just own it on DVD to be a completist as its not that bad, but it is SORELY dissappointing. Hell I haven't even seen it a second time, and this is coming from a guy who saw X1 five times in theatres, and X2 six times. The previous Xmen flicks got repeat business because the movies were finely crafted (though X1's story was a bit weak, you can tell the makers tried really hard to make the movie as good as possible)

OK, having seen the film, I DO hope it bombs.

I wrote this thread, thinking that Cyke's death would be the reason I didn't like the film.

I had no idea that there would be a dozen things WORSE than killing Cyke off, not that killing Cyke isn't bad enough.

Agree 100%.

At this point, I too have to hope it bombs. It's clear that Fox couldn't hold back on Wolverine even when adapting the most beloved X-Men story (which just so happened to call for more screentime for Jean and Scott - IMHO they both suffered).

If they can't restrain Wolverine in this story. I don't want to see what they'll do with him in X4.

I like Wolverine - I just don't want him trampling the other characters - he should be relegated to spinoffs from now on.

That's a good point.

Maybe we should look at the numbers it's making now on their own.

Honestly I'm a poor judge of BO numbers. It made about 10mil friday, right? Is that good or bad?

Just think how stupid Fox are - making die hard fans hate the movie and hope it would bomb means they did something very very wrong.

Yeah... great point... I'm a hardcore fan and I just feel like it's a huge injustice... and yeah... I'm really hoping this blows up in their faces...

so if 30% or more of the fans feel like that they must have really screwed something up... it's ok for that many to feel slightly dissatisfied with it, but to actually hope that the movie bombs? that's a bad sign for sure...

No, 10 million in one day isn't bad at all. It increased on Saturday to 14 mill. Whats more concern though is its drop from its previous weekend. The Friday drop was a staggering 77%. Its a little unfair to compare the 10 mill to the 45 mill earned the previous Friday, but its still quite the hefty drop. Saturday is cause for a greater concern. Considering that last Saturday the movie dropped pretty steeply for its second day of release, its quite dissappointing to see that the movie's Saturday STILL dropped 55% over its last. And sunday aims to be worse at 60%. But we won't figure that out till Tuesday.

They'll probably meet budget fine. But honestly, like the movie, the box office will not make what it potentially could've made if the movie was actually better.

WHAT I HATE!
Juggernaut is a mutant!
Professor Xavier's body being obliterated!
Cyclops is killed by Jean!
Psylocke! A totally different Psylocke!
The Phoenix is just the dark side of Jean!
Magneto could only move metal!
Iceman and Pyro's one-on-one bout! Too short! Too obvious!

WHAT I LOVE!
Wolverine's fight scenes!
Effects use for Colossus! Awesome!
Juggernaut's costume! Almost exactly the one in the comics!
Kitty Pryde's racing against Juggernaut! Impressive!

Hoping one of the few giant comic book movie hits fails financially...yeah, kill off one of the few profitable franchises...that'll teach those movie companies who try to make comic book movies!

What the hell kind of comics are you talking about?

Juggernaut in X3 looked like a rejected character from the Mortal Kombat TV show. The guy is supposed to be on par with the Hulk, not Sabertooth.

When Juggernaut's appearance was first revealed, someone posted a picture from the comics where Juggernaut looked EXACTLY like he did in the movie.

He looks like his Ultimate X-Men version, that's the pic you saw posted.

Couldn't have said it better myself

You need to think of the movies as an alternate reality. X3 realy isn't as bad as you guys seem to make it out to be. Everyone I have talked to (internet not included) has liked or even loved the movie. Anyone who only knows the movies would not have expected a big role from Cyclops. I agree that it should have been done, but it didn't. Wolverine has been the main character of this trilogy(if you can really call it that).

X3 was great and it's passed 311 million now going for 400 million in another 1-2 weeks and then on to more.

but X-Men has never been about main characters its about being a team and being different and that at being different you are never alone, last time i checked anyways.

As an alternate reality the movie is still flawed :D, especially with continuity.
