I just feel like ranting about somethings. When I write a script, I want it to be good. Not crap, good. ....Lately..I've been having some writer's block on my script..my new spec script and I've been a little lazy. This is unacceptable along with day dreaming instead of focusing on the topic at hand. I like to write and I know one day, sooner or later, I will be doing it for a living. ...My weakness is dialouge and character development but I keep improving on that. I feel my new spec script will be my best work to date. I just freaking know it.

Hollywood...hollywood is going to try and break me but it won't. You see, hollywood doesn't care about the script. Doesn't care about the damn quality. No one...well most people in that town, in the biz cares about the screenwriter. Screenwriters are the ones that write the script...not the producers, actors, directors, or anyone else. I know when I sell my spec scripts or am hired to write a script for a studio, I WON'T have full creative control over it. In a way, that makes me sick. It disgusts me. BUT...since I write my scripts with a low budget in mind, some changes like more action, is probably for the better. But when action.....when................................................it overtakes the character development to the point that you don't care about the characters, I don't like it. I don't want cliches in my scripts. I want them out, not in. When I write a movie, I want it to be something original. I'm done with this rant, please don't delete this thread or close it.

My Act 3s suck, because I try to cram all my 934698146 plot twists into them :(

Like a bad David Lynch movie!

I don't think you need to eschew "day-dreaming" and stay "focused". I think you need to relax and indulge in "focused day-dreaming".

yeah writing is all about day dreaming. If you're not day dreaming, you shouldn't be writing at all.

Don't try to cram so much into your final act, man. I know some writer's may think this is dumb, but I DON'T DO ACTS. I plan the script longhand before I type. I write a lot of dialouge for the scenes and put idea for other scenes down. I basically plan the whole script longhand, while writing dialouge. My only problem is, I am trying to stretch some scenes out than they should. Writing spec scripts with a low budget in mind, may be another weakness of mine. That means I ain't writing a lot of action, and I am damn good at the action.

I've read so many interviews with dialogue-writers I admire and I realized I should stop filtering out the cliche and actually listen to it when they all inevitably say "The characters write the dialogue for me."

It's cool not to force it, relax and watch the movie in your head. Wait for parts that aren't just Daliesque stream-of-consciousness malarky and then write it down.
Key word "wait".

Yeah, yeah I know...it's just a tendency I have is all.

I emailed Sci-Fi channel to see if they take spec scripts but they never wrote back :(:(

bastards

When I daydream, I ain't thinking about the script. I am thinking of wrestling, games, anything to take my mind off the task because I can't think of anything to write that is good. There's day dreaming and there's brainstorming.

thats your problem. When I daydream I think about what else I can do to make my horror movie ideas even more ridiculous than they already are.

I have some comforting news for you. Arby's has just brought back the Roast Beef and Swiss Market Fresh Sandwich! A hearty portion of the beef that put Arby's on the map, garnished with Swiss cheese, fresh tomatoes, whole leaf lettuce and red onions. These items are all sandwiched between thick-sliced honey wheat bread, all finished off with spicy brown honey mustard and creamy mayonnaise.

Nothing beats writers block like Arby's!

All good points- more than often the inculcation of things throughout the day are good foder for writing, don't focus on 'getting an act III' write a log, a paragraph in someone else's words, what that loser's motivation and goals are down the block. Use your surroundings, no matter how they seem unrelated. Keep trying, :cwink:

Yeah. I'm not talking about "brainstorming". I'm talking about focused day-dreaming.

You need to read some of David Lynch's thoughts on meditation. I feel sorry for you if you think I'm talking about "brainstorming".
No wonder you have trouble with dialogue.:csad:

Good chance they get about 10, 000, 000 e-mails a day regerding that quote. Think of all the internet users that beleive they have 'talent'.

The Star Trek TV shows are pretty much the only televised thing where the producers accept scripts from anyone and have actually used them when they were good.

Oh, but there aren't any Star Trek shows on anymore. :(

yeah I know, but still...It's not like I sent them one or said I was great or anything. All I needed was a one word answer.

Yeah quit complaining, Ronny.

You need an agent/manager to contact Sci-Fi. I will point you to two.

http://www.pretty-disgusting.com/

^ never did hear back from them, but I didn't feel like posting the beginning, middle, and end of my script.

http://www.soyouwannasellascript.com/

Best site on the net for writer's. Yes, it is legit.

http://www.soyouwannasellascript.com/source/competition.cfm

The 2006 All Acess Screenplay Competition. I hope to have my spec script done, so I can enter it into the competition.

http://www.soyouwannasellascript.com/source/selling.cfm#express

Script Express. You can select the agent/manger version on the site. It's 50 bucks, but I feel it may be worth it. If you believe in your script, correct format...go for it. I know I will, if my script doesn't place in the top 8 in the competition.

If your weakness is dialogue and character development, you're "damn good at the action" and right now you find yourself writing a lot of dialogue... Maybe you should start again from scratch and refocus what you really want in the script.

Perhaps shoving the script down the producers throat in front of his/her family? Gets their attention.
lol I'll try that of etm's websites don't work.

Thanks etm. I'll check those out.
