FF055-05.jpg

From FF# 55 where he's fighting the Silver Surfer! Sort of appropriate!

What would YOU like to see him do?

POST A PIC!

I still don't see anything either.
How about this?

Here's a rarely-seen Thing vs Surfer illustration, from an unpublished cover by Ron Wilson. I believe it was drawn sometime in the early
1980's. Ron Wilson is one of the great unsung Thing artists. He did a ton of Marvel Two-In-One issues back in the day.

Thanks, Willie!

Spider - Man, its probably because you are hyperlinking them. I think if you host them with somebody everyone can see them, and they will stay up forever.

Not all conflicts are the result of one party being good and one party being evil. In fact most conflicts are between two parties who have a little good and a little evil.

Throw in some self-interest and mis-understanding, and you've got the root of most conflict.

You can apply that to these boards, daily life and world events.

And you can also apply it to the fights the FF has had with the Silver Surfer.

Yeah, photobucket and imageshack are good ones for that. They're pretty reliable.

And, back on the topic, I really do think that pic from FF#55 would be awesome to see.

Who needs the punk-ass movies. :)
I swear that's moving.

 Damn straight.

Ernest Hemingway was once asked by an interviewer if he felt his work had been devalued by the "Cliff's Notes" movie versions of his books.
He gestured to a nearby shelf of his books and said, "No, they're all right here, and they're fine."

In my opinion, no motion picture will ever capture the grandeur of Stan Lee & Jack Kirby at their peak on FF.

Yeah, for someone your age, I can see that being your favorite. LMAO "just kidding".:cwink: :woot: I understand where you are coming from. I just can see room for all eras to be seen and heard in the movie.

I understand your point, youngster. :woot:
Let me put it this way...I'll gladly listen to a cover version of a Beatles tune. I even like some of those covers. But I'd much rather listen to the actual Beatles.
And Lee & Kirby's heyday (on all the titles they worked on together) well, that's as close as we've come to a "Beatles" level phenomenon in superhero comics.
In my opinion, anyway.

I just noticed the sound effect in that panel....
"BYYONNG"? lol, that's a new one.

Yeah. The thing that depressed me about the movie and what I've seen of the second is, in this day and age, with the crazy CGI, I believe, with different people in charge, they could've gotten very close,
like in a stylized " Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow" way (a movie that I couldn't even finish watching, but at least it had retro, over-the-top, definitely massive and other-worldly stuff going on).

Even though th^t movie was flawed, and tons of CGI invariably means poor CGI in parts, there was literally NO way they could've approximated the Kirby kineticism in the 70's, 80's or 90's, but it could've been possible now.

For instance, in the first movie, when Johnny says "I never do............FLAME ON!", that did freaking look exactly like a Kirby panel come to life. And they sure as Hell couldn't've done that as effectively in a practical way, with a guy in a kerosene soaked insulation suit on wires.

To me it seems so lame that they "knew" that the only way to depict Reed's power was CGI, they "knew" that the only way to depict Sue's power was CGI, they "knew" that the only way to depict Johnny's power was CGI, and so, Ben, the coolest character of them all, got the short end of the stick, 'cause they weaseled out of the fact that, to do him correctly, he would ALSO have to be CGI. :down

But see, I don't see recent F4 issues as "covers" or "re-dos" of the original. I myself don't like "covers" of songs. I would much rather listen to the originals myself. As far as look, Thing, etc. I can certainly understand why people want a certain look. But I'm sorry to go back to the original, and pull a movie entirely from those, would not transfer, in my opinion, story-wise to a 21st Century audience, no more than a new group doing a cover of the Beatles in a concert. I don't want to see U-2 doing covers of the Beatles, I want to see U2 doing U2. To me, you take from the originals, and the issues of today, and put out a movie for all to see. A damsel-in-distress Sue would not bode well with the women of today. A smart-ass Johnny does. The Sue of issues of today, is who women are today, or at least the women I know. A friend of mine teaches Sociology and would LOVE TO DO a Woman's Study class at her college and use the issues of Fantastic Four and Sue to show the evolution of Women from the 20th to the 21st Century. Mind you, I didn't necessarily think she was written well in the movie, she was still much more a woman of today, than the early issues. Johnny is Johnny in any age. Ben is Ben in any age. Those characters work well today, its just some are no happy with the look. Reed wasn't Reed of any age, that I could tell. Certainly not a man that I would want leading me into space.

So to me, you take the best of all eras, write a good solid story, allow the director to have his vision from day one. Allow the director, to carry out that vision through the script, to the camera, to the editing room. You allow the actors to give their ideas of characters, (I'm sorry, some may disagree), but at least in the actors of Mike, Jessica and Chris, seemed to have a very strong hold of who and what their characters are. Allow them to carry their characters in the direction they believe will sell on screen. They let Chris do it in the first movie, and it seemed to work. Maybe a few too many one liners for my taste, but certainly came across well even with the overkill.

To me the Corman version, a version solely from the originals, sort of. :cwink: Came across much like The Brady Bunch Movie, and I sure as hell don't want that for this movie. In any form or fashion. The areas I bolded above, in my opinion, will make this a better movie, not just going back to Lee/Kirby, but allowing the director take from the creators, and create a film for the 21st Century.

I don't want a movie, that only the fans of the comic can look at and go, ooooh wow, thas "my" F4. I want a movie, that people of all ages can go into together and enjoy the hell out of it. You say doing a movie solely from Lee/Kirby's vision can do it. I don't agree, but they certainly have their place of honor in the making of this movie.

Someone around here, can't remember exactly who or where, gave the example of some wanting the Ultimate Version of F4 in the movie, but that would be wrong because that isn't the F4. Its the F4 to those fans that love the UFF. I happen to like the reg issues the most myself, and as a new fan I want to see much of that in the movie. I don't believe any are wrong in their feelings, I just think there is room in this movie for all. Take what transfers the best to film, and go with it.

Mmmmm....look how totally non-humanly proportional the Thing's face is there.
Wicked.

Really? Yuck.

I agree, IMO, that is not the real Fantastic Four. I'm a relatively new fan as well and I started off reading the originals. I must say, I was thoroughly disgusted with how the Ultimates were done as compared to the original FF. Sure, some people like the UFF and that's just fine, but I'd be much happier if they stuck to the Stan/Kirby version; the version that their creators intended them to be.

In fact, there wouldn't be any UFF without the original inspiration of the originals. So, I hope they continue to carry that through the movies. At least, in large part. If they stick in a little nod to the UFF, I think I'd be fine with it, but it really should be about the FF that fans have always known about - the FF that people knew even before the 'Ultimates' came out.

I think they're doing good, so far, in that respect though.
