As for how it makes me feel. Well, as unlikely as it is, if it actaully is not a direct reboot, then they should have just cast Tobey, Kirsten, etc, back again. If it's related to the last trilogy, that would have been the way to go.

However, I don't think that's the case. This is a reboot.

I don't see how it can be questioned that this is a direct reboot. It's been explicitly stated that they're starting from square one again. Continuing the series with a different cast would be horrible and Sony knows that.

If the film depicts his getting bit by a spider, its a reboot a retelling of a story we have already seen depicted on film. If the film alludes to the spider bite and expands more on his dealing with the powers in high school, then I could see it being sort of a prequel in a way.
