Yes I'm a gal, but I abhor shoe shopping.
My problem: I have short, fat feet and blocky toes. I'm a 6.5 E (E is the widest shoe measurement they have, B is standard).
So, when I'm looking for shoes I need something that hides the toes - that cuts my possibilities in half. Then I need to find the wide sizes. Your average store like Walmart simply doesn't carry half sizes or wide sizes, so I have to go to a store that specializes in shoes. Even there, I went to two yesterday and the widest they had was D - so I had to go up a size.
Now, even if you go up a size, if you have wide feet, the flipping things will pinch / rub somewhere. My feet get sore just trying on the different "wide" shoes trying to find one that doesn't pinch too much.
For all that pain and aggravation I end up with a pair of shoes that are not particularly attractive, have a heel higher than I like and cost twice what I expected to pay (and 3 times what I wanted to pay).
