I feel that it would become a bore after a while.

Well, considering that is your 13th post here in 4 yrs, I can see why you would think that personally.:cwink:

But, some of us would enjoy life on Earth so much, we would always find something new to interest us, as I was saying, life always offers new challenges and knowledge, look at how different the world today is from 100yrs ago, as time went on it would be like living on different planets, life on this planet evolving in ways that we can't possibly imagine right now. Just as the ancient Victorians could never have imagined Bouncy Castles that never burst or adamantium penny farthings.

Yes, but you can spend at most, 100 trillion years with humanity. Then the rest of forever will be nothing. And as long as you exist, the universe cannot die, so your hell is perpetual. Jacking off for all eternity could get boring after a while.

There is only one way to test an unburstable bouncy castle, and that is to drive an adamantium penny farthing over it.

You lack vision my son.

But Adamantium isn't the sharpest material naturally though is it, so it would be two indestructible objects. N33D M04R ID34Z NA0!!1!!0Ne!!

There is no way the human race is going to be extinct, ever.

Like i was saying, life on this planet will evolve to degrees we cannot possibly imagine right now.

Ok, scientists say that this sun, planet, universe, will all unravel , blow up and whatnot someday, but, by then, we will probably be able to transute and transmogrify oursleves into another dimension or something, who the hell knows, there will be some plan we will implement if we can't sellotape the universe together.

Life needs information. Information needs matter. Most matter will be destroyed during the Black Hole era of the universe. But regardless the end of the Stelifourous er marks the end of life. No stars, no life. And as of now, although alternate universes can't be proven, they cannot be disproven. How can you travel along something that is not the 4 dimensions of our universe to get to another universe? What is the inbetween medium?

Thing is, your mind would slowly just turn to jelly if you were immortal. Your body could stay young forever, but I'm assuming your brain stays the same, collecting information and storing it. It's not like a computer with a recycle bin that you can click and delete things you don't need to know. No, thousands of years slowly accumulate and you just become a disgusting old man with the body of a youngin'.

If an immortal were here, I guess they would say 'That's just what the mortals say cause they are jealous.'

Isolated monks? You mean those guys who walks around in potato sacks, shave their heads and are too scared to ask girls out(hence the attire)?
Those guys are just sitting waiting on death, lol, no, I think someone who could handle and enjoy immortality would have to be possessed of great imagination, verve for life, courage, intelligence, compassion and put that into such a mix as to be able to handle the craziest states of mind without going insane.
In other words, a wannabe rock star.

Honestly that is a ridiculous take on monks. I'm not even going to bother getting into it either really. It also sounds like you've been reading the Vampire Lestat a little to much. Who knows what the truth is, but the human psyche is not designed for that span of life imo, nor would 99.9% of the population be able to remotely handle it.

Eternal life would be a curse. You would wish for death sooner than you think unless you were able to attain an inhuman/detached mindset. The spirit/psyche needs to reboot every now and then. You would grow weary from loss, grief, feeling out of sync with the world around you. You would still become an old man mentally, even if your body didn't age.

I think its naive to think it would be LIKE SO FRIGGIN AWESOME, YEA !

Sorry buddy, but your take on the monastic lifestyle is rather ignorant. It actually takes great courage and discipline of the mind and body to fully live in such a way. So...yeah.

If for no other reason to see how everything ends, then yes.

Which is why I mentioned them. Being able to separate yourself from the day to day vagaries/worries/distractions/desires would be essential after so long. You would have to be comfortable with your own thoughts, presence, and have the patience that few have. Not to mention the ability to shed attachments and emotional bonds.

It would take a damn strong mind to last several lifetimes in one span.

How? No sound. It's perfect!

Also and I don't know, maybe you could just, break up with them before the planet blows? Plenty of other immortal aliens to go around.

Ok, but if they are immortal, than do they even need sex? I mean unless they have the best technology ever, overpopulation still becomes an issue, and they may not have contraceptives. I mean how well would average, thousand year old Earth condoms fair against something big and blue that could possibly blow an Earth females head off?

I already answered this question once before.

600 years ago. :awesome:

Something that is beyond our ken right now. Just as transmitting images would be beyond the ken of a caveman.

Ok, I don't know much about how scientist's hypothesis on how and when the universe will come to an end, but I guess it is possible that tech could be developed to counter certain things.

But, if all else fails, we can travel to another dimension, or even become another dimension, some kind of formless entity beyond our ken. Information is not always matter, information takes the form of energy as well, it's just that in this physical form, we need the energy to materialise in physical form to understand it, whether through visuals, like a computer screen, or sounds, like through a radio speaker.

and as for the other guys who are piling on me, you know damn well I was making a joke about the monks, as soon as you pulled out the phrase 'isolated monks', you knew I'd make a gag about that, because with the stuff you are saying about no-one being able to handle immortality, as the mind and soul needs rebooted etc, I'm surprised that you even brought up the phrase 'isolated monks', because you obviously don't think they would be any different in handling it either, so you were obviously not being that serious when when you brought them up, right? So why not make a joke out of it, which i thought I was obviously doing, which you all know anyway, so please save your high and mighty monk defences for the monk rallys next time they are in town for a Beastie Boys concert.

and as for the whole soul/mind needing rebooting, of course, that's why life is as it is right? So, anyone having immortality would be a new form of life essentially, they would have some sort of new way of rebooting so they did not burn out in that way. What that would be, I dunno, but just as mortal life has the constraints of sleep and death for such purposes, so immortality would have it's ways of keeping the person sane and fresh.

I'd like to live for like 200 years or so. There's still so much to see and do.

I'd take immortality under the following conditions:

It didn't hurt anyone else
I stayed young and healthy... Being eternally elderly does not sound like fun
I could still enjoy sex and food and preferably sleep too
I didn't have to stay in the same awful job the whole time
I could kill myself once I'd had enough

Can you imagine the freedom of it? Not to feel the pressure of time running out, not to rush anything, not to be in a hurry. I'd love it!

Humor doesn't translate well on here many times. Some catch it some don't. Theres no "piling on". Just debating on a message board and expressing opinions and differences.

I mentioned monks as the type of mind that could most likely handle it best for the longest period of time without going insane. I really don't think any human could truly handle it honestly. Jmo.

Well, one of my points in my posts has been that humans will most likely evolve past the point we are at now, so what you term 'human' now, will be a very different thing in the future.

Something that is beyond our ken right now. Just as transmitting images would be beyond the ken of a caveman.

It's not lack of clarity that inhibits humanity living forever. It's what we know now. We can record the entire universe from beginning to end. We cannot leave it, as that is a possible fallacy, as a) Other universes are hypothetical, and b) There is no medium to travel upon it to reach the new universe. A more feasible idea would be time travel, but that would require either a) infinite power or b) no mass.

Ok, I don't know much about how scientist's hypothesis on how and when the universe will come to an end, but I guess it is possible that tech could be developed to counter certain things.

I'm afraid not. The basic outline for the future of the universe is:

In 100 trillion years: Star formation ceases. All Hydrogen capable of coalescing into stars is gone. And the Stelliferous era ends.

100 trillion years- 10^40 years- The Degenerate era. Galaxies no longer exist and only Red, Brown, Black and White Dwarfs remain, remnants of the Stelliferous era. They remain for so much longer as they burn at such a lower rate to stars, but it would be very hard to sustain life on them. Proton decay causes era to end.

10^40- 10^100- The Black Hole era. Matter no longer exists. Black Holes remain, slowly evaporating due to Hawking radiation.

10^100- 10^1000- The Dark era. The universe is only populated by photons, leptons, electrons and positrons. Once they all reach c, in terms of expansion, time no longer exists and the universe dies.

This will happen because it is ultimately more likely to happen. And that is due to the second law of Thermodynamics, and the arrow of time.

But, if all else fails, we can travel to another dimension

Impossible. We literally cannot exist in another dimension. We cannot even imagine another dimension. It is literally beyond comprehension, it would be like trying to explain going up to Pac-Man, who can only mover forwards, backwards, and sideways.

or even become another dimension, some kind of formless entity beyond our ken.

Impossible once again. Dimension are the frame on which things exist. You don't become one, they were made in the Big Bang. And you cannot exist formlessly. Every memory you have, exists within your brain. Your brain has a physical mass.

Information is not always matter, information takes the form of energy as well, it's just that in this physical form, we need the energy to materialise in physical form to understand it, whether through visuals, like a computer screen, or sounds, like through a radio speaker.

Matter and energy are the same thing. And we understand them well enough. They trip you up now and again, but it just gets added in.

In my imaginary world of blue immortal hotties, they're horny as hell and haven't been touched by a male in thousands of years.

And there's like, I don't know,100,000 of em or something. :o

Plus, Kids don't matter, cuz we are of a different Species, so you know, no kids. Goat Boy is not real.

I would in a heart beat. I don't like thinking about death.
