Comics If you could erase everything from Spider-Man's history starting from one point...

I don't know if I would erase it from one point. Maybe parts here and there.

I hated the Clone Saga when I first read it but after going back and reading it again....I really enjoyed it. Sure some parts of it were pure garbage and the "never ending" feel of it was really overboard...I still enjoyed it.

Personally I would just erase "The Other" and "Sins Past".

If I could only pick one...Go with "The Other". Hands down the worse Spider-man story ever told. Nothing even comes close to that.

1) If I could erase something, i'd erase Venom becoming an anti-hero. I like some aspects of it, but yet I frown. However I still love Venom, as im a Venom fan after all. I'd keep Venom an evil son of a *****.

With that off my chest;

2) Norman Osborn coming back from the dead. Uneeded, his finale was excellent and his death justified. Nothing good has come out of his "resurrection".

For the next few things, it's an assumption of mine since I stopped reading spider-man comics other then buying the occasional TPB, other then going back to the older issues and sticking to ultimate spider-man;

3) Totem

4) The Other

5) Spideys unmasking

6) The so-called re-boot

7) This Civil War Stuff

8) Scorpom

9) Norman knocking Gwen Stacy up, seriousily, wtf.

EASY!

I'd end with Amazing #149, the last of Gerry Conway's (Criminal Intent) run which introduced ( in an intelligent way ) all of the plot devices which were so horribly misused over a decade later in the "Clone Saga."

Gwen's neck snapped because she was a flawed clone. Prof Warren went nuts 'cause he was a flawed clone. Pete ferrets out the mystery and stays true to his true-blue, Charlie Brown image: He stays with the serious girl, not the Go-Go dancer... this leads him to putting Venom away for good the first time they meet, never getting involved with a shady character like the Black Cat & laughing and punching any fool in the face that dares to tell him that he was chosen by the GREAT SPIDER GOD to be Spider-Man.

Not where I was going to go, but wow, that's pretty darn good.

I will take the easy way out. The erase that could actually happen.

JMS and Beyond.

Oh Victor, I liked the Black Cat Peter Parker relationship of the mid 80's. I absolutely love all Spider-Man comics, sans some clone saga, reboot and most of JMS and JoeyQ's work.

But..........I can't pick a more vibrant time for Spider-Man COMIC BOOKS than the early to mid 80s (82- December 88).

It just didn't get any better than that in My Honest Opinion

i don't think spidey'd assault the guy he'd just listen politelyand say something like "no offense but that sounds like something out of CONAN THE BARBARIAN"

I agree with many points raised, but I feel that overall the totem stuff should be axed, they completely were trying to change everything we knew and loved about spiderman. The "chosen" aspect kills the whole "hapless schmuck who fell face forward int powers he never asked for" feel. I feel the whole thing was too drastic and unneeded.
yes it was unneeded

Nonsense! His actual resurrection was one of the few that has been handled extremely well(Revealing the scar and such).

Also, since then we have gotten the two best Goblin stories ever written- The Revenge miniseries which led into A Trick of Light and A Death in the Family.

Miller's run and The Final chapter are two of the worst stories in Spidey history, but I'd rather take the good with the bad rather than nothing at all.

I have a list of picks:

1) Honestly, I'd just stop everything before the Clone Saga ever occurred. THat was the beginning og the dark times for all that is Spidey.

The Clone Saga made things so bad that a "relaunch" and a "revamp" was "needed". They brought someone back from the dead every other week after the Clone Saga. It was ******ED!! IF the CS had to be done, it should have been abridged into a 12 issue crossover with no long-lasting effects so that it could just be ignored afterwards.

2) Next, I'd erase everything after "The Book of Ezekiel". JMS's run would be remembered quite fondly if he'd ended it all there...as opposed to going back in time to look for stories. If it had ended there, we'd have no "Sins Past" and no "Other"....and NO IRON SPIDEY LAME-ASS COSTUME!!!

3) Everything after The Unmasking. Nothing good will come of this. It's just a cheap shock tactic and it did NOT follow the logical progression of the character. In fact, it was the MOST out of character action committed by Spidey since he stabbed a guy through his arms and ate his head all of 6 months before it happened.

Honestly, I haven't been ga-ga over an issue of Amazing Spider-Man since the days when Larsen, McFarlane, and Bagley were on the book. I think the original "Carnage" storyline was the last one I truly enjoyed in that title...and even that was totally screwed up when "Maximum Overexposure"....I mean, "Maximum Carnage" took place a whopping twenty or so issues afterwards. Yes, I know alot of people LOVE that story...but not me. After part 3 or 4, it just lost it's luster.

ANYWAY, I just don't enjoy many of the stories as of late. I think the last Spidey ongoing I enjoyed aside from Sensational and Marvel Knights Spider-Man (Millar's run) wa back when Jenkins was on PPSM, back before the relaunch of it as Spectacular.

I don't know if I'd delete the CS entirely, it did have some good aspects, Ben, Kaine, the death of May, to name a few. Heck maybe it's just because when I grew up, it was during the clone saga, and that me and my blonde friend played as Ben and Pete in Spider-man, but I think it would be kind of a bummer to axe it all.

I would cut down the CS, and make it shorter, just a story of how Ben Returns, introduce Kaine, and have the Jackal screw with Peter's head and tell him he's the clone. Maybe the Jackal makes two other Clones just to screw with Pete's life, but at the end we find out that Pete was the real Spider-man, and that Ben was the clone, also have Baby May returned to the Parker's by Kaine, and keep Aunt May dead. If you really want a mastermind behind it, besides the Jackal, use Citizen Kaine's explanation with the Hobgoblin.

Now, we'd do story of Pete facing the troubbles of being Spider-man and trying to Raise a child, with guest apperances of Ben coming to help him out. No Spider-totem crap or anything like that, keep the stories grounded and true to the character of Spider-man.

I personally would love to write a spidey comic....and if i did...i personally would write a new series that started at Gwen's death.....An "alternate spider man" if you will, but have Gwen survive and write the series from there where anything goes....and could happen. But write it in our time and not the 70's...that would be funa nd cool i think.

The thing is too, if i chose to have someone die, such as aunt may....the rule would be if i was writing that deaths would be lasting, for one thing.

But, that's my idea for a series, and if i was also writing from a start on point.

IT'd be like an ongoing what-if alternate spidey kinda deal.

Great minds think alike. ;)
