If you could fish any project(s) out of Development Hell...

Hellboy 3 deserves to be stuck development. I'm fan of the series but you can't ask for the type of budget del Toro wants when previous box office doesn't justify it.

That just means del Toro shouldn't be directing the third one, not that there shouldn't BE a third one.

But who else other than Del Toro should have a go at Helloy then?

... what would it/they be?

....Terry Gilliam on The Man Who Killed Don Quixote, .......
If we're including the impossible, I would add Orson Welles' Quixote too.

And Disney's version in permanent development....

Sam Raimi?

He could do an awesome Hellboy movie. And on a much tighter budget than what de Toro was asking for. Just as long as the damn studio knows enough to keep their noses out of his business, we won't end up with another Spiderman 3 type movie.

Tony Scott's initial follow up to his final film before he passed.

Jason Statham and Mickey Rourke as hit men caught in a set up orchestrated by Javier Bardem probably sounds typical, but from Tony Scott the Sexy Beast/44 Inch Chest writers, they intended to make something much more emotional and existential than your typical action film.

I like to think Tony got to make it in heaven. Charles Bronson in the Statham role, Raul Julia in the Bardem role.

I still want to bring The Crow from developmental hell, but with a female lead, using the Iris story line. Love to see Jessica Biel as the lead.

But would it really still be in the same vein as Del Toro or would it just be Raimi Spider-Man or Raimi Evil Dead minus Toby Maguire and Bruce Campbell?

First of all, I don't think ANY Sam Raimi movie would ever be minus Bruce Campbell. Even if he's just playing a hotdog vendor selling Hellboy a smokie with the works, he'll be in there somewhere.

Second, the first two Hellboy movies were very much in the same vein as Evil Dead 2 or Army Of Darkness. Plenty of action, some disturbing imagery, some touching emotional scenes, and the hero was a bit of a wise ass.

If anyone can make Hellboy 3 on a budget and have it come out looking good, I say Sam Raimi is the one to do it.

Bruce did not appear in "Drag Me To Hell". Just saying.

But would we be getting the Sam Raimi who made Army of Darkness, one of the most quotable films of the early 90s, or the Sam Raimi who gave us Topher Grace as Venom (while also downplaying Spider-Man's signature snark)? ;)

How big a budget exactly was Del Toro (who made the first two on fairly small budgets by Hollywood standards) asking for? I'm pretty sure Raimi's Spider-Man films weren't cheap.
