If you've seen it, your reviews here

You are aware that the Battle of Thermopolye was directly referenced in The Big Fat Kill? It pretty much inspired Frank to do the full 300 graphic novel.

he probably liked the idea...

I don't know if a narrow passageway was actually used in strategy or not...

I just felt like he recycled his own idea because it was all too similar to what I saw sin city....

but I don't want to harp on the only minor problem I had with the movie....because it's already one of my favorite all-time movies...

Of course he liked the idea, man! He did BFK first, then decided to make a GN out of it for Dark Horse. And Eisner Award and Blockbuster Motion picture later, we see others like the story as well.

And yes, that was the whole point of both 300 and The Big Fat Kill, choosing where to fight a force of larger numbers can make a small, well trained group nearly impossible to defeat in conventional ways. This has been military strategy for thousands of years, even William Wallace used it at Sterling Bridge (the real battle, not what you seen in Braveheart).

c another valid point...i dont c too many ppl bashing the fact that baveheart wasnt 100% accurate...i loved that film also...but ppl just need to be more consistant with their arguments

Uh Oh, Looks Like Another Big Debate Is A Bruinnnn...

Wow like I posted in the other thread , I was having the chance to see 300 for the 1st time on theathers , and I did yesterday , and I tell ta now : It's bloody awesome . I did expect it to be good , I had high expectations , but didn't expect something so awesome , even what I could see as weak parts perhaps , like some possible cheesy dialogues weren't , My highlights :

- Captain Artemis's character , awesome , I was glad that they could give the actor something to really work , remember him from a idiot ***** in Troy , like in that "Hector cut his throat my Lord " , and looking like such a bad ass in this movie , fantastic his chemistry with his son , and such an bad-ass ending , loved how he went out with all glory
- Gorgo's Character , what I seemed could be a spot to be criticized , the fact the plot was being created , but no , solid dialogues , good acting , and really great the ending of her plot
- Leonidas character , needless to say , awesome , period. Butler is one hell of an actor
-The ending , best thing of the movie , the GN ending did touch me , but this one on the movie , even bigger , it did brought me tears I must confess , beautiful powerful , the way Leonidas died ........ all the following images , The "Remember Us " speech , without mention the moment Xerxes thought he had won , then Stelios flying ........
- And finally the shot of the greek army .... wow

yuup...it changed the way warriors prepared for battle...

I didn't like it so much. I really thought I would, but I didn't.

Finally saw it. Loved it, but I felt that Ephieltates lacked a bit of screen time. Can't wait to see what Snyder does next.

This film is wildly inaccurate. everyone knows that Jesus rose in at Thermopylae and devoured the Persian army in the form of a 300 headed lion. Just look it up in revelations. Also, Leonidas should have been portrayed as a sickly man and the queen should have looked more like Sandra Bullock.

doesnt sound like u kno much about greek methology or history for that matter

I thought the cinematography was amazing but unfortunately the best moment in the film was when the queen gutted that guy. 300 was NOT boring but you don't care about the secondary characters and the action was not so impressive that it made up for it.

This is late and a little long, posted this on my myspace page a while back.

You should have seen it coming, its been a long time but it was worth the wait! Finally 300 is here (well it was here last week but my internet is ****e) in all its violent, sweaty, bloody and gory glory! A testosterone fuelled epic filled with semi naked men and some of the most stunning battle sequences ever!

Helmed by Zack Synder the wiz behind the excellent gory remake of Dawn of the Dead in 2004. Here using the green screen technique made famous with another Frank Miller graphic novel, Sin City. Here used to brilliant effect bringing the glorious graphic novel to life, like Sin City from page to screen. Green screen allowed the creative team to build everything from scratch from beautiful scenery to the massive Persian army. A feast for the eyes, 300 is a visual treat.

Now onto my preferred subject, those fearless Spartan warriors. Early on we learn that Spartan's are taught to be fearless, to feel no pain, to never back down and to make spear and shield a part of them. Basically a bunch of stubborn bastards with no respect for pretty much anybody. It is King Leonidas who starts the war with his refusal to submit to the King/God Xerxes and it is also Leonidas who takes Sparta's 300 best warriors without the consent of Sparta's politicians. Gerard Bulter exudes the hard assness required of a Spartan king but with enough humanity and humour as well. An enjoyable aspect of the film is the Spartan's sense of humour in spite of the odds that face them. The highlight of course is seeing them ready for battle wearing a leather cod piece, a crimsom cape and bodies like washboards! Which makes it more convincing when they slaughter masses of the Persian army depsite being rather scantily clad.

Now this may be based on a historicial event but this films make no apologies for being 'loosely' based on the battle of Thermoplyae. All sorts of freakish delights are laid out for the Spartan's; Immortals, semi giants and guys with spears for arms! Not forgetting the King of Kings himself, Xerxes; nine foot tall covered in chains and piercings and quite hot, not suprising as its Brasilian actor Rodrigo Santoro. Not portrayed as the 'villian' as you could side with him when many times he makes generous offers to Leonidas. Screen time is mostly given to the marvellous warriors in the midst of gritty battle but subtly shifts to quieter moments following Queen Corgo's fight to send her husband reinforcements. Lena Headey gives a reserved but feisty performance as the Queen.

Battle sequences are stunning, they tick all the boxes. Blood, flying limbs, 'anti' heroes against overwhelming odds, dash of humour and 300 tireless warriors. Slo mo features heavy throughout the film, sometimes its a little overused but it does work in most places helping the plight of the 300. The final battle moments are touching and awe inspring facing certain death the Spartans still show no sign of backing down.

Overall one of the best films I've seen in a long time. Despite being so macho there is just enough camp for the rest of us who aren't heavy on testosterone. Definitely a must see, yes mostly for those Spartan warriors but also for pure escapism and Hollywood fun. Better than Troy, Alexander and King Arthur combined and the lack of A list stars mean you believe the characters and you're not watching so and so in a skirt! A little less slo mo and little more character development doesn't prevent this from being a future camp/cult classic!

FINALLY got round to seeing this yesterday, and while i thought it was good, and i thoroughly enjoyed it, i was also slightly dissapointed, but there is a genuine reason for that.

I have read Gates Of Fire, by Steven Pressfield, which is about the battle of Thermopylae and is possibly the best book i have ever read. So, this is why i was slightly dissapointed, as i feel if they would have adapted the book instead, it could have potentially been one of the best movies ever made. 300 was good, but no were near one of the best movies ever made.

Another dissapointment was the role of Gorgo, while played well by the lovely Lena Headey, i just didnt think her character was well written and i didnt like that she just slept with people to gain their favour. I know it was for a good cause, but i doubt Leonidas would have been happy had he found out either. Also, a little more historic accuracy wouldnt have gone amiss.

BUT, there was a lot more good than bad in the movie, i thought all the actors performed good at worst, superb at best, and the battle sequences were stunning. It was slow at times, but the movie tends to rocket on at a good pace, and the ending was both sad and uplifting at the same time.

my turn

i've seen it a few days ago, and i was slightly dissapointed, i was not expecting a historicaly correct movie, but not to this level, with giants, and immortals that are more beaasts than men, and tle bloody goat-man inside xerxes's tent
the battles were awesome, but a little boring after a while, there are in fact, only so many ways to stab somebody, and it gets tiresome in a while, it started out beautifuly, and ended so, it did in fact have some throuble with the middle bits, but one of these days i'll try and edit it into something a little more watchable

"300" was a good hack and slash, action flick. As for the historical accuracy, only about 90% of it was accurate, the other 10% concerning Xerxes in particular was very inaccurate. Don't get me wrong, I wasn't complaining at seeing Rodrigo Santoro half naked though. :D

Just came back from seeing this in IMAX today. And my ears are still ringing.....this was an incredible movie experience.Certainly not for the faint of heart. The violent nature of the Spartans is shown right from the get got with the shocking scenes of kids beating the crap out of each other.

When i saw the previews i thought men running around half naked would be distracting but like with everything else in this movie (the giants etc.) you suspend belief fairly quickly.

Loved the battle scenes, the cinematography, effects, makeup and the use of slo-mo - though at times overused it works for this movie. One of my favorite moments was when the Captain's son died (you could feel the dispair) and when the Queen stabbed the rapist/trator (was so glad when that happend). For a movie with so much testosterone this movie has some surprisingly good quiet moments. I thought the dialogue could have been better though; at times it was very repetitive and cliched.

There were also a few times when i turned my head away because of the sight of gore. And looking at others i knew i wasn't alone.Still though we and (i guess) everyone else in theater thought it was money well spent.

I give this a 8/9 out of 10 (i'm bad at giving reviews and marks :O ). Butler, Snyder, the cast and crew did an amazing job IMO. And that for only 65 million?:ninja:

Anybody who went in to the movie with an idea that 300 was historically correct should remember that it's based upon Frank Miller's comic and that he and the director altered things to appeal to a bigger audience. No different from any other adaptation.

300 was pretty dull, I mean the only thing it did was made me realise that troy wasn't so bad after all...

hector and achilles could have taken out those spartans all by themselves...

the persians came across as too weak an opposition in all fairness. bah

Well I was dragged to the movie by my bf and I have this to say: Gerald Butler was so effing HOT I wanted to jump through that big silver screen and...do some very naughty things:p

Oh yeah, and the movie was pretty good:o:up: (my only gripe is that the filmmakers chose style over substance instead of finding a way to balance the two)

I loved it. Though its depiction of Spartans compared to Persians is very innaccurate.
