The Dark Knight I'm losing faith in Nolan

You guys got me all wrong...

First, of course it´s my opinion and not a fact.
Second, Nolan is an amazing director and Batman Begins is a great movie, and never said otherwise, but what surprises me is the devotion of some to Nolan.
Why would that be surprising? People are devoted to certain comic writers and artists. People are devoted to certain comic book characters. Why would devotion to a director be any different?

I haven't seen such devotion to a new director since God David Fincher. Taht's a good thing!

When i see Nolan pics... knuckel children are born

I lost some respect for Nolan starting with BB. He followed both Burton and Schumacher in their total lack of respect for Batman's secret identity. Seems it's not a Batman movie if some broad, who isn't even important enough to be featured in the sequel, doesn't learn the secret. I can only imagine who's next in line...

One ****ing question:

Why losing faith? What reason?

Btw......do you know HOW MANY people know his secret identity in the comics? How many, give me a number.

I don't understand who Poetic Chaos is saying at all. Who gives a crap. It's so trivial.

And? I doubt anyone else in the sequel will know who he is, considering that The Joker will probably kill Rachel.

And guess how many people know who Spider-Man is in the movies? Yet neither incident ruined the films.

Everyone who knows Spider-Man's is either dead or important enough to carry on to the sequels. And he held off on telling MJ (his love interest throughout 3 movies) until the second movie. Rachel probably won't even be in it.

Yeah......but, just to laugh, look at the comics. Something like 80 different people know who Batman is.

And, now EVERYONE and they're grandmother know who Spider-Man is too.

So, just think about that one boys.

I dunno about 80. The original members of the Justice League. Some Green Lanterns. The Bat family. It's probably 15-20 or less.

And as for Spidey in the comics...a Civil War will do that.

AND it's really about WHO knows in the movies. Batman seems to let disposable characters find out while Spider-Man has held off on letting MAJOR characters in ALL the films know.

Isn't that a rather petty complaint?

Which is how it is in the comics. It took forever before Mary Jane or Aunt May knew about Peter being Spider-Man in the comics. Batman however, has always been more open what with Alfred, and the Batfamily and whatnot.

In the comics, who the **** DOESN'T know who he is?

I don't have any lack of faith in Nolan at this juncture. He proved to be worthy of helming a Batflick with BATMAN BEGINS, and I have no reason to doubt him on this sequel.

If anything, THE DARK KNIGHT should, in all likelihood, be a superior sequel. They have even more interesting source material to draw upon, Jonathan Nolan's writing the sequel, and if the trailer for THE PRESTIGE is anything to judge by, Nolan's growing as a director.

What exactly are you losing faith in? Is it because Nolan casted a guy for The Joker who looks the part and can act? Yeah he's a real jerk.
wow. so heath ledger didn´t get the job?

yeah. that's right. i just did the James Brown dance because i KNOW how much TDK is going to kick ass.

You know what I'm losing faith in? Pants.

I mean seriously, WTF?

It is curious though that for those of us who was back in '92 who was eagerly waiting for the sequel to Tim Burton's 'Batman' that most bat-fans loved and praised, to be somewhat in the same position with Nolan right now.
I personally wouldn't know - I was in the third grade (I think) and didn't know then that the Batman movies existed. :p

Anyhow, I've heard that Burton was on a short leash on B89, and was then let loose on BR and then it got all weird in the typical Burton-style since nobody was keeping him in check. I'm pretty sure that Nolan was already given basically free reign for BB, and he chose to collaborate with Goyer (and DC) because he wanted a team with comics expertise to help him in his vision. It's a little bit too soon right now to say whether he'll do the same with TDK, but I sure hope so.

I also hope that Goyer will stick around as a consultant. His BB script was pretty good, but I think Jonathan Nolan will do an even better job on TDK. I do recall in the BB special features, that Nolan would pick apart aspects from the comics with Goyer (which is good - discussion is good :) ), and that Goyer had to argue for the existence of Scarecrow's mask. LOL, could you imagine the backlash if Scarecrow didn't have a mask?

You absolutley right.

Ben Melniker and Peter Guber (the prudcers 'of Batman '89) Keep Tim Burton in check and on that "short leash" becasue he wanted to do some really out there stuff for Batman '89. But they put a stop to it.

And Sam Hamm (the sreenwriter) fought NOT to have the Joker kill Bruce Wayne Parents but Burton insisted. He still make it perfectly clear that he had nothing to do with that decision.

However with the megasuccess of Batman, Tim Burton pretty much had to answer to NO ONE for 'Batman Returns', which explains some of it's Weirdness (Penguiins in sewers, cats resurrecting the dead, Max Shreck, etc.)

Unfortunately 'Batman Retruns' suffer because of it, which is why they went with Joel Shumacher for 'Batman Forever'.

Nolan made the wise decisions to have collaborators who knew more about the characters legacy than take a stab at it on his own, I just hope with the success of Batman Begins we don't have another TIm Burton like follow up to a great movie.

I don't think so because Nolan seems to smart and don't seem to let his ego get in the way of his movie making.

This thread is bull poopies:(the guy drops a post with no explanation and then pissess off

My faith is stronger than ever in Nolan,BB was the bat movie i was waiting for and the idea's im hearing for the sequel are excellent IMO

Yep. Like comic fans devote themselves to comic writers, film fans devote ourselves to directors and writers of movies.

Chris Nolan came out of nowhere really. I hadnt even known who he was and after Begins i was just begging for an answer to "who made this?" as it was such a smart reaction to the nonsense that preceded it.
