Something I just noticed watching the DVD last night: In the New Krypton beating sequence in SUPERMAN RETURNS, I had thought that Superman was just screaming in pain when he was being dragged by the head, but according to the subtitles, he actually yells "I'm still Superman!" as he's being dragged by his head and beaten by Luthor and the thugs. Then he starts yelling things like "Come on! Get up!", apparently to himself (unless this is supposed to be Luthor yelling this at him, maybe to taunt him).

Anyone else noticed these lines? Not sure what the writers intended for this sequence. Is Superman trying to psyche himself up, even though he no longer has his great power due to the Kryptonite? And is this really neccessary dialogue?

The entire movie wasn't necessary.

I don't think one line from a sequence that made no sense in the first place should really be dissected.

Interesting....I had no idea Supes said that..

Neither did I. Which is why I'm interested in discussing it.

Going by your attitude, if anything isn't necessary, it's your presence in this thread.

That's fascinating about the captions. I thought it was more than him just grunting.

I'm going to check that out right now. I remember when I saw it the first time, I thought he was yelling something at Lex similar to the Reeve dialogue in his first film, "how can you let innocent people die" or whatever it was. But I honestly couldn't discern any of it.

Doesn't seem necessary to me.

Superman: I'm still Superman!!!!

Thugs: Well alright then, sorry for all the kicking... we'll just help you up and let you be on your way good sir...

yeah, those lines seem kind of out of place and um... weird. i always thought his screaming in that part sounded kind of off, though.

Actually I think the guy who was dragging him said that.

This was the first scene I watched when I got the DVD with subtitles (honestly)and he is definatly saying "I'm still Superman!" but I think it's Lex's thug saying "Come On " as he is dragging supes by the face. I personally have no problem with the line he is letting Lex know he may think he has him down at that moment he won't get away with his plan . He is not just taking a beating he is issuing an declaration to Lex he will somehow overcome .Later on Lex knew immediatly what was going on and who is the cause when his new land started to crumble and he and his gang had to flee.

A much better line would've been something similar to "You'll never win!" or "Justice will be served!"...but "I'm still Superman!"?! What the h*ll? I never even knew about that one. I under stand Singer's reasoning, but that line just sounds cheesy, regardless of the context.

Yeah i heard this too.. was wondering why he said that.

btw movie, you dun have to censor Hell. Muahahahahaha

Well, I didn't know how sensitive the moderators were around here...

No offense, but your suggestions are worse.

I actually liked the line. When someone finally mentioned it too me after seeing the movie, I went back listening to it and I could hear it as well. Made the scene more awkward for me, and thats good. One of the top scenes in the movie, IMO, and him screaming that he's still Superman just adds a little extra effect.

I could always make out the 'Get up!' line, someone says it twice just before they pick him up and throw him into the wall. I'm pretty sure its Supes who says it as well.

In the latin american spanish version the line "I´m still superman" is dubbed "I kill superman" ("Yo maté a Superman") by Luthor. The people who dubbed the movie misunderstood the line and thinked that was sayed by Spacey

I always thought he said I'm Still Superman and thought that was pretty cool on many levels, but I heard that it was actually the thug saying he was going to "kill him". Who knows!

I believe it was the big guy saying, "Come on, get up". It sounded a lot like his voice, and his mouth was moving a bit when it was said.

I think its an error in the subtitles Guard. It's not the first time we've seen this...and oddly enough, the other place I've seen these is on the Matrix DVDs, also by WB.

I thought it was pretty clear that he said, "those were a gift from my father, you took them from me..." and not "I'm still Superman' which common sense would tell you has no relevance to that scene and just wouldn't be written in. Also, I'm still Superman doesn't last as long as it'd need to to fill in his mumbling in that scene; his voice rises and pitches multiple times insinuating multiple words.

It's a DVD error, most likely.

The man speaks the truth i think guys like him are needed on here, ignore this worthless jibe matt and stick around.

The cadence of whatever he's saying doesn't match up to "those were a gift from my father. You took them from me". Remotely. Nor would this be a logical moment to have him say that. I can definitely make out something that both has the cadence and sounds like "No! Aghh/I-I'm still Superman" when he is first being dragged. Then a staccato, muffled "Still SupermaGHHH", or something along those lines.

I think he's saying, Luthor you can take away my powers, You can beat the **** out of me, But it doesn't matter I'm still SUPERMAN .

What isn't necessary is posts like this. If you don't like any of the movie and don't want to discuss it, you don't belong in this thread.

I kinda hear him say "Un-hand me" when they are dragging him. But it doesn't show it on the sub titles.
