I'm THE JUGGERNAUT B****!

Did anyone else notice the tone in Magneto's voice when, in X1, he tells Sabretooth: "Once i give my powers to the girl, I'll be temporarily weakened. You'll be my only defence."

The ironic tone in his voice is almost like he doesn't put much faith in Sabretooth at all and is rather horrified at him being the only defence! It always makes me smile the way Magneto says it.

Sabretooth did fail at capturing Rogue and holding on to Senator Kelly. Toad even tells him to 'Quit fooling around' at the train station, so I think we are supposed to believe Sabretooth is a brute who isn't the brightest spark around.

Apparently, this is all explained in the Wolverine prequel...

Yep. I pretty much agree.

Same. Both seemed as inadequate as each other, and I was quite content with their film portrayals.

And the look on Magneto's face when Sabertooth got blasted out of the Statue of Liberty was telling too...like he had a feeling something like that would happen.

Overall I still disagree. I didn't think Sabertooth was too bright but, at the same time there was not a single scene in X1 that convinced me he was a moron.

There was nothing boneheaded about Sabertooth not being able to hold onto someone who was deteriorating into something with a density similar to a jellyfish.

I'm not seeing anything in the tone of Magneto's voice that would suggest he was afraid that Sabertooth would fail him. If Magneto was concerned I can understand why? If I was him I would be uncomfortable being in a powerless state regardless of who was protecting me.

Sabertooth's failure to capture Rogue needs to be properly analyzed. First, Sabertooth tells Magneto that the X-Men had incite into what Magneto was planning. Secondly Magneto didn't seem to bothered by this when Sabertooth told him. Magneto wouldn't have sent Sabertooth on such a crucial mission if he was inept. In reality it is Magneto who is at fault for Sabertooth failing because it was Magneto's plan. He obviously didn't warn Sabertooth about all the precautions he would need to take to prevent the X-Men finding Rogue and Wolverine around the same time. If Magneto acted angrily towards Sabertooth during this scene than I would reconsider my position but, he doesn't.

The line that Toad tells Sabertooth in the subway is consistent with his bizzare and silly personality. It had nothing to do Sabertooth failing at a previous mission.

Hence the reason I said unintentionally boneheaded... Magneto's response in the movie says it all.

I already addressed this.

A one time bio can suggest anything it wants, it doesn't change the fact that the character has been portrayed as an idiot from time to time... and he definitely has been in the comics, cartoons, and movies.

Yes, a bio can suggest something and the reason it suggests something is because it's true. It's also true that the character has been portrayd as an idiot from time to time. That doesn't make him a complete moron. Many inteligent comic book characters have made boneheaded decisions every once in a while.

I've seen all the X-Men cartoons and I'm not sure which one you're referring to that shows that Sabertooth is a moron. Could you name the episode or episodes?

i like that quote
after all he's not smart so it goes straight into the character

Basically, this is all that needs to be quoted because you have just conceded my point.

No one is saying he is a complete moron, as though he has no redeeming intellectual qualities about him.

Sabretooth is, at best, conniving in the Deadly Reunions storyline... but I’m pretty sure it wouldn’t be hard to find more than a "few" instances in which he acts like little more than a brutish, snarling thug (an idiot, in my opinion… but not a complete moron).
