IMAX hoax

not sure if this has been mentioned but this disgusts me...

i recently found out one of my local theaters will have IMAX screens (as the mall once had an IMAX theater...only to be removed..and now brought back because of recent success)

but i wondered how the hell they were going to turn everything back into an IMAX theater..

well now this is nasty...

people are gonna get the wrong idea of IMAX now..
as if they dont already... with normal 30mm films being cropped in (real) IMAX theaters

Selling two entirely different experiences as though they are the same

IMAX could've avoided all of this by simply branding these new locations with a different name to indicate a different "experience". The screens are smaller but still larger than normal screens, the image clarity and sound are still much better, and even the seats are better. For people who are into movies, the extra 5 bucks would likely be worth it. They seem to be intentionally vague about it though, and now it's blowing up in their face.

The theater chains wanted to call them "IMAX Digital", but IMAX said no. Their excuse was that "digital" implies "better" to those who aren't well-informed on the subject, and the massive IMAX screens' ticket sales would suffer.

Yeah, this has been a big controversy in the movie-going community for the past few weeks. IMAX now at least knows about the issue, but we'll have to see what they do about it. Until then, I recommend anyone planning to go to an IMAX, bookmark this site:

It's a user-submitted database which is constantly updated, detailing which IMAX locations are "real", and which are just glorified large screens.

thank god my near IMAX theater isnt a fake
i have yet to go because when a movie comes out its already sold out for IMAX, im planing to get one for Transformers 2

i was happy to hear a closer imax was opening near me... and now i find out its a lie

i have to still drive 45-50min up to imax ...gr


i dont see the point of watching transformers2 in imax when it wasnt shot with imax cams...and it wont be 3d either.

i know, but ive tried to get in to Dark Knight...Sold Out, tried to get into Watchmen.... Soldout.... all the big blockbuster movies are sold out for weeks in IMAX
