So I've watched the released trailer dozens of times now, and I just absolutely love both Iron Man suits. Remarkable, simply amazing they pulled it off. I also love the flight, even though it is under some speculation at the moment. But overall, I am in the middle about this movie. Why? Becuase for me, I can't digest Downy/Tony Stark's poor acting and horrid dialogue. I'm getting Ghost Rider vibes...that had awesome trailers...but the movie pretty much stank to high heaven overall.

I know it's early, but from the trailer, it just seems that the acting isn't there, that it's all 'fun and games' and not a heartfelt effort.

Anyone else out there taking the middle ground?

There are clearly huge gaps in your overall general knowledge of, the Tony Stark character.

While i'm not completely sold that the movie will rock, at the moment i am quietly confident.

Plus the difference between IM and GR is that TS should be a quiper and a funny person, he is a millionaire playboy afterall (and if i'm not mistaken, isnt he a complete ******* before being captured in the comics?), Johnny Blaze really shouldnt be, at least not as much as he was in the movie.

I get the feeling that it's gonna start out great (setting up the characters, Stark's capture and escape), but then fall apart.

Tends to happen with a lot of comic book flicks. First act is often really good and involving, but once the characters and basic plot are established, it just becomes a "superhero movie". And that's the vibe I'm getting from Iron Man.

The slightly campy look of it isn't exactly giving me much confidence either (that's judging from the trailer, anyway.)

The dialogue bothers me, everything else fits, the suits are AWESOME... the afterburner scene was just disgustingly awesome... the actors are of the utmost quality, but something about the dialogue seems... contrived to a point... "What are you building stark?" is perfect for a trailer, but its hard to sell that line as real... and while the snarky goofball "myspace" comment can be funny early on, I don't see the drama carrying though so heavy...

But... we'll see...

Everything that has come out looks promising, but I felt the same way about Spider-Man 3 a few months before it was released. I'd rather have low expectations and be pleasantly surprised than have high expectations and be disappointed.

I'll probably see this when Im bored. I wont be counting the days like I did with Spiderman 3, which is a good movie no matter what anyone else says, but I will see it.

I am getting a "Batman Begins" vibe. An amazing first & second act of the movie setting things up & then the third act will make this movie close to unwatchable.

I think the movie will be really good, the only thing that bothered me in the trailer was using Black Sabbath's Iron Man, felt forced and chessy.

However, I don't think this will be like Ghost Rider at all, in my mind, Ghost Rider has always been about style over substance, his main draw is his look, the flaming head, he's never had a very impressive rogues gallery, at least not one that would work in a live action film without an even bigger budget. Iron Man/Tony Stark is a much more interesting character, especially if they play on his alcoholism/party life style, he's kind of like Batman, if Batman actually could enjoy being Bruce Wayne.

Actually RDJ is the first reason why I am going to watch this movie, as he's one of my favorite actors. The only two things, which I don't like about this movie are A) 2 hours as max for running time, and B) visual style reminds me some stuff from X3.

from x3? really? I don't see it.

I'm thinking it will be the other way around. I think the first half will be pretty average (how many times now have we seen RDJ being witty and sarcastic) but the second half will be just balls to the wall action. The only thing that can really kill it is a stupid plan to take over the world from a corny villain. We need somebody that is just as cool as Iron Man.

I expect the dialogue to be weak compared to Batman Begins but I'm mainly going to see it for the action sequences. The suit is awesome, and a fight between two suits should be great. Overall, I'm confident because of what I expect from it.

The teaser does come off that the acting and story line is a bit weak. If you've seen the original comic con teaser the acting does come off better in that one!
I know with the actors involved in the movie that acting isn't going to be the problem! I have my fingers crossed that the script is a strong one!
I have a feeling that the running time of the movie will be over 2 hours!

Well in the acting dept. they have no worries as far as I can see.
Directing dept. is Favreau, who is an actor's director and someone who allows and encourages experimentation among the actors to get the best interaction that fits. Plus he's got and undeniable sense of style that permeates his films. And he understands the basic appeal of comics characters, being a life long fan himself.
Writing dept. you have the guys who did Children of Men, and while I never got to see that, I didn't hear anyone saying the dialogue sucked in that movie, quite the contrary actually.
So I think it'll be a winner. GR never got me jazzed at all, even though I like Nicolas Cage. MSG is more like a director "just going through the motions" without much of any original style or genius to offer. DD was the same.

When I see the teaser the thing that really sticks out at me which I think alot of others have seen is how nonchallont (sp?) RDJ is when he's doing his little speech to the military officials about his new weapon. If you've seen the original Comic Con teaser you get to see that whole scene and not a cut into the middle of it like in this new teaser!

That's a good way to put it... the ending for BB was terrible... a meglomaniac that wants to poison an entire city... no matter how you spin it... is not justice under any circumstances... and the action was non existent... I could see a similar result with this flick with just a whole lot more things blowing up. I really don't see why everyone thought the trailer kicked ass.

90% Confidence level for me...

The 10% is me wrried it won't be serious like Ghost Rider :(

Really? Why did you say this ?¿? :whatever:

Bye.

Batman Begins is ANYTHING but unwatchable.

I didn't find the third act that bad. Why does everyone hate the "Can you drive stick?" line?

I laughed...

Where was it mentioned the film would only be 120 minutes?

Odd as it may sound, the raw Comic Con footage got me SUPER excited, but the trailer, while containing basically the same footage, gave me a bit of a bad vibe. I guess that's a good sign, since the CC footage is more similar to the actual flow of the movie, but I can somewhat agree with the Ghost Rider comparison.

As for RDJ as Stark, that's seriously the least of my concerns. RDJ practically is Tony Stark in real life.

I'm in the middle...I don't know much about the character on the paper.

My most intimate experiences with Iron Man has been in the Capcom 2D fighters.. :p

Well. the myspace comment raised my eyebrows too, but the fact that this is the first film under Marvel's new studio deal gives me slight hope.
