Well in my opinion anyway as far as the greatest Christmas movies of all time go I have a lot of Christmas movies that could be held up in consideration such as:

Die Hard (1988)

Die Hard 2 (1990)

Home Alone (1990)

Home Alone 2: Lost In New York (1992)

A Christmas Story (1983)

Dr. Seuss' How The Grinch Stole Christmas (the 1966 cartoon version and the 2000 live-action film with Jim Carrey as The Grinch)

Elf (2003)

It's A Wonderful Life (1946)

Father Christmas the Movie (the one with John Lithgow & Dudley Moore). Grew up on that one. otherwise, Elf, Home Alone & Arthur Christmas.

A Christmas Story
A Miracle on 34th Street
Elf
How the Grinch Stole Christmas
It's a Wonderful Life
Rudolph the Red-Noised Reindeer

White Christmas is another classic as well as Lethal Weapon even though it is an action movie it is a Christmas movie because it is set around Christmastime and what not so it has to go up there

Another Christmas movie I would recommend is 1994's The Ref with Denis Leary and Kevin Spacey now that movie was funny as hell but the message behind was great certainly enough to warrant a place here

Absolutely nothing tops National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation but here's a list if others that I also love:

Scrooged
The Grinch
Surviving Christmas
Christmas with the Kranks
Deck the Halls
Elf
Home Alone
Home Alone 2: Lost in New York
A Christmas Story
Die Hard

A Christmas Story and Christmas Vacation, I make sure to watch every year. I also went to the Christmas Story house last Christmas which was a lot of fun.

Others:

Scrooge (Alistair Sim version)
Die Hard 1 & 2
Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer
White Christmas
Miracle on 34th Street (Maureen O'Hara/Natalie Wood version)

How the hell is Die Hard a Christmas movie? Because it's Christmas in it? This is ridiculous.

Home Alone all the way!

It's a Wonderful Life
Rudolph and Frosty's Christmas in July
Silent Night (the German film, not the horror movie)

If we can include non-feature specials:

Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer
A Charlie Brown Christmas
The Little Drummer Boy
How the Grinch Stole Christmas
Nestor: The Long-Eared Christmas Donkey
The Year Without Santa Claus
Jack Frost
Dekalog 3

A Christmas Story

Home Alone

Batman Returns
The Nightmare Before Christmas
Bad Santa

These threads tend to attract two types of movies:

1. Movies that take place at Christmas, which does not affect the story (Die Hard, Lethal Weapon, Batman Returns)

2. Movies in which the holiday is important to the story (Scrooged, A Christmas Story, Four Christmases, Miracle on 34th Street)

No mention of Lethal Weapon?

What is this madness?

This. It also made me realize I want another Batman movie set during Christmas, and where Christmas is important to the story.

So there a few genres that superhero movies haven't crossed into yet. A superhero Christmas movie could be awesome.

Deadpool Christmas movie can work too, IMO.

A Christmas Carol (1951), the one with Alastair Sim.

Holiday Inn (1942), the movie that introduced the song 'White Christmas' (though most of the movie doesn't place at Christmas so maybe it doesn't count?)

Die Hard
Batman Returns
Home Alone
Home Alone 2
The Santa Clause

The Nightmare Before Christmas
Die Hard
A Christmas Story
Gremlins

A Christmas Carol (1984)
The Muppet Christmas Carol
National Lampoons Christmas Vacation
The Nightmare before Christmas
Gremlins
Home Alone 1&2
Trading Places

I think that Christmas does play a large role in the first two Die Hard films.
