Honestly, I don't think that many people in the general population know (or care) about that.
I chalk the success of the DVD to simply positive word of mouth.
Well, I didn't say many people in the general population. Most people in the general population didn't buy the movie. I'm talking about those that did, which means those that are interested. And out of those that did, I think, as I said, "some" bought it out of a deal of interest to see the deleted scenes.
Besides, the conflict between Norton and the studio was highly publicized, so I do think there was a lot of curiosity surrounding it.
