Universal Home Video has announced the first November wave of HD DVD releases. Arriving from the 14th November will be King Kong ($39.98) starring Naomi Watts and Jack Black, The Hulk ($29.98) with Eric Bana and Jennifer Connelly, and Waterworld ($29.98) starring Kevin Costner. Each will carry a high definition anamorphic widescreen transfer, along with English, French and Spanish Dolby Digital Plus 5.1 Surround tracks. Extras should be identical to the discs already on the market. The runtime for King Kong confirms that it will be the theatrical cut of the film, and not the new extended edition. Art is attached.

I'm so torn between wanting to see Hulk in hi def and not wanting to buy either of the 2 hd players.
Hmmm Maybe i'll grab the 360's hddvd drive if it's cheap enuf. Nice middle ground.

you know, it's funny considering to what great lengths they went to in order to sell the original dvds (large price drops in the uk) that they believe it's worth re-releasing the product in another format?

i know the profit margins are large but wouldn't it still be a feeble investment considering how much it is going to take to advertise the fact it's being re-released?

Hulk, King Kong & Waterworld coming to HD DVD November 14th

Universal is keeping the hits big budget flicks coming to HD DVD. They have announced we can expect Ang Lee's Hulk, Peter Jackson's King Kong and Kevin Costner's Waterworld on HD DVD November 14th. All will feature Dolby Digital Plus 5.1 soundtracks, the extras from the DVD editions and...that's it. Hulk and Waterworld carry a $29.98 SRP while King Kong starts off at $39.98. Excuse us if we're a bit underwhelmed, we're sure they will look and sound great but c'mon Universal, we've got a new standard for blockbuster high-def rollouts. Throw us a bone here, TrueHD soundtrack, IME picture-in-picture extra, Hulk-hands pack-in, something. You can check out these and other dates on our Google HD DVD & Blu-ray release calendars.

Hulk will have an aspect ratio of 2.35:1 on HD DVD when its aspect ratio on regular dvd was 1.85. Although I don't own an HD DVD player I would like to see the 2.35:1 version just for comparison.
