Inhabiting Other Planets

Let's see...what would l like to see on this new world:

-Tolerance - Not just racial, but lifestyle and most importantly, religious.

-Crack down on stupidity - If you get in a run-from-the-cops car chase for 20 minutes then crash the car and wrestle with the cops all the while screaming "I'm not fighting!! What did I do!!?" Then it should be a mandatory kick in the nuts and 2 years jail time. Just an example...

-Fix the legal system - Stupid lawsuits about someone spilling hot coffee on themselves or a burglar suing the people for getting hurt after breaking into their house should be denied. Those people should be taken to the center of town and publicly laughed at.

-And I want a starship called Serenity.

-And we should all talk in a combination of Old West/Chinese.

It would definitely be a life-decision. But yeah, I'd imagine passing it up wouldn't be an option, considering the whole adventure/making history aspect. :word:

Of course, there would also be no way to stop religion, war, crime, etc. from reaching the new planet. Human nature and all that. :o There's no way all the nations would get together as one, they'd end up wanting their own slice of the pie, which of course would lead to problems. And you know damn well Paris would get there somehow. Hilton I mean. :indy:
Probably, the First Colony would attract the other nations. Remember, they are there all by them selves. If the First Colony has already set up Farms, and Food. They have infrastructure, etc, the other nations would like to take part of that. So, you would have people asking to join the Colony, instead of starting over from scratch.

Eventually, when Manufacturing would allow it (Ships, Cars, what have you), then other Colonies would set up. But, they would have to go through the same process, Set up Food, Water, Manufacturing, then Government.

Think of what it was like, when the the First Explorers came to the Americas. They needed basic supplies, then had to set up systems to fend for themselves.

Yup, and everyone else sat back until the hard work was done, then moved in and slept on the couch. :cmad::oldrazz:

I'm sure while the colony population is small and intimate at first the place would be a utopia, with a firm control on everything. But as other nations dig in and the population grows and grows, it would open the door for such things to get ****ty. Perhaps it would even be some kind of vacation site at first for people to just fly out and visit.

I have a more pessimistic view: I think space colonies will be more like those depicted in the Three Stigmata of Palmer Eldritch (Philip Dick, among SF authors one of the best at actually predicting the future without trying that hard to).

It will be all bells and whistles at first, but then conditions on the alien planet will be so depressing that the people there will turn to drugs and/or suicide, and Earth countries will have to institute a draft or conscription to force people to move there to keep populations sustainable.

The social structure will become very much like a remote northern First Nations reservation in Canada.

That depends. If they have the Political Ideology of Classic Liberalism (Libertarianism), the "Do as you want, Don't tell me what to do" mentality, I think they could easily co-exist with other nations.

Remember, two Democratic Republics have never entered war with eachother. If, the populas believed in Freedom and Liberty, and the "Space Government" believed and practiced the same, I believe that no nation would ever go to war with each other.

Yea imagen if the colonies ended up like Rapture from Bioshock?! That would be keeerrraaaazzzy!!

Not to mention has anyone seen Gundam Wing...the people on this new planet will not want to take order from Mother Earth and we have 1776 2: The Space Edition:o

True, I think an actual "war" would be VERY unlikely. Especially if the whole reason for the colony is the future of the human race, or a means to mine for things we need here.

Exactly, I would imagine Life on this Colony would be more peaceful than here. For the Most part.

The population has a common goal. Survival. Eventually, they would set up nation states, trade with each other, so on and so forth. And, if they remain Enlightened, they would have no problems.

I do agree with SoulManX, there would probably be somesort of "Declaration of Independance" from Earth. Which, I would imagine would go over much more peacefully than it did during the the Revolution or the Civil War.

What if another life form doesn't want you there and are not friendly like the native americans were?

I guess......we'll have to......get rid of them :ninja:

How about this? Every continent gets a planet. That'd be pretty cool.

What would be do about the Middle East. Can they be trusted with a larger section of a planet? Would they still fight over the smallest portion of it? :(

Have we not learned from mass media what lays in wait for us humans:o

Point eared green blood bastards and Rocky Dennis like dog men with a code of honor:o

I would totally be up for a move to a new planet. Let's leave all the old grudges and intolerance behind on Earth.

On the "racial" tolerance note. I say we ask a simple question;
"What is your race?"
all those who answer "human" get to go
all others stay on earth.

I'm dead serious on this too, I have nothing against being proud of your culture/heritage but in a society who sees themselves (and in turn others) as being human you have a very high probability of not having to worry about racism.

Questions of the same type could be devised for sexual orientation/religious views. Weed out the people who see things as separate from others, while still having their own differences.

It sounds more complicated than how I think about it in my mind but I hope I'm getting it across correctly.

Secondly, let's be a little bit more concerned with our new environment please, our species ruining the environment, wasting all the natural resources of two planets isn't something I'd be proud of.

Suppose we(humans) found a way to occupy other planets or maybe just one other planet. Is there anything you'd definitely like to see changed about this new world or worlds that exist here on Earth? It can be something you'd add to the new planet(s) or left out: weapons, religion, Paris Hilton, etc.

Left out:

Weapons except for things like bows and arrows. Nothing explosive.

Celebrities. On the new planet, there will be no "worship" of people just because they're famous. In fact, let's try to avoid the whole fame thing. Anyone can talk to anyone!

Fast food. We all love it, but let's keep the planet from becoming obese too easily.

Cars that run on gasoline.

The current form of government and voting.

.

that dont work. see its my beleif, that until zemah comes, racism will exist in the human race. thre will always be some someone who is racist. and even if its a colony of non-racist people soon there will be someone who will be born and look at people of a different color and say "these people are different then us. they are only sub-human". its human nature.
:csad: yes this is a very pessimistic way to look at things, however i have a solotution:

send each minority to a different planet. however this could be seen as racist (as segragation) and welll....theres other problems too. so i beleive that racism is hard-coded in the human geonome: that until zemah comes, there will always be racist people. :waa:

a sunni planet a shi'at planeet and an israeli planet. yes that handles it. :woot:
