Inhabiting Other Planets

I think we'd have a similar situation to the new world and african colonies.

And we would definitely still have guns religion and paris hilton. People need reminders of good ol' earth.

We would all die horrible deaths trying to live on saturn :csad:

Left out:

Weapons except for things like bows and arrows. Nothing explosive.

Celebrities. On the new planet, there will be no "worship" of people just because they're famous. In fact, let's try to avoid the whole fame thing. Anyone can talk to anyone!

Fast food. We all love it, but let's keep the planet from becoming obese too easily.

Cars that run on gasoline.

The current form of government and voting.
How are you going to colonize somewhere, if you plan on mining for resources, if you want to have Manufacturering, you have to have Explosives.

For self defense purposes, police, etc, you have to have Firearms. If you don't bring them, then the first person to "re-invent" them, will oppress the Colony.

What's wrong with the current form of Government? Whats wrong with voting? Would you rather just have a class of people that makes all the decisions for you, then if you don't like it, tough luck?

Also, processed and high-calorie microwaveable type foods (fast food) will be the only food available to travel through space.

There are no specifics for this planet. Remember, it's not Earth...there likely won't even be resources in the ground.
This is purely fictional and will require some imagination and suspension of disbelief if you know anything about space and astronomy.

The whole point of new colonization in my eyes is to try to have it as un-Earth human like as possible. If people don't know what guns are, they won't miss them. The Native Americans and many other old civilizations kept the peace without guns.

Why bring the same form of government when you can invent something new? Same with the voting system...I don't want another Electoral College. Of course there'd be government and voting, but why not take the opportunity that this is an entirely new planet?

Is this a what SHOULD we keep or what would we keep thread, Spoons?

I think people are taking this thread a little too seriously, lol.

Well it depends is this a comment on our expansion habits as a society or a "dream world" scenario that is a comment on us as individuals?

What's the point of moving there. How are you going to feed yourself? How are you going to survive?

You have to have some form of resources, or your colony won't survive.

I'm a simple man with simple tastes, as long as there was no laws, laser guns and space hookers I'd be pretty content.

Haha, this thread isn't about how you'd survive, it's things about Earth that you'd like to keep or leave behind. I don't think it has to be plausible...be imaginative!

I have an imagination defiency. I'm sorry. :csad:

that's what space condoms and space reach-arounds are for. God, what the hell do they teach in school nowadays?

Ok, suppose that we found a way to turn some moons in our galaxy into our sources of food and farmland. We'll just rocket the food to whatever planets we inhabit. That takes care of the food problem.

Less economics, more imagination

I would live on the Moon, because it is made of Swiss Cheese. Is that better?

I would bring Ritz Crackers Too!

Haha, you're destined to work on wall street and read your kids bedtime stories from the NY Times :(

I don't need to worried, Galactus fixed all us heralds so we be immune to any space STD's :woot: and condoms don't work when the STD eats away it

Oh, how about this? Here on Earth, even the most annoying/disgusting creatures and insects serve a purpose in the circle of life. Are there any animals you def wanna take from Earth or just deal w/ whatever they've got on Mercury?
