In the last EGM (Electronic Gaming Monthly) issue a rumour was reported about Microsoft intention of acquiring Capcom in order to make the famous Asiatic software-house a first-party developer.

Obviously, this is something like a sci-fi rumour! Capcom is one of the greatest Japanese software-houses and during its 27 years of activity it has never been a first-party developer.

Capcom acquisition would certainly help Microsoft with Xbox 360 sales in Japan as it will imply the exclusive on several games such as Devil May Cry (which has always been a Sony PS exclusive) and Resident Evil series.

Furthermore, it would be superficial to think that Dead Rising great success has been the only reason for such a "join-venture".

*explodes*

Not always. In 2002 they were minutes away from announcing a Sega purchase I believe. And they've been rumored to be going after big Japanese names for a while now, to help them break into that market. And I believe Capcom is in financial trouble anyways. I could see it happening.

That's only a rumor. I don't think it was ever going to happen. Microsoft had some ties to Sega but I doubt a purchase was ever underway.

Damn, that would all but seal the deal on DR2 and RE5 exclusives! :woot:

I'm pretty sure that Dean Takahasi guy or whatever his name was said that it almost happened, but it was a while ago so I can't really remember. But a capcom buy is definitely plausible. I don't think it'll happen personally, but I can see why it would.

Microsoft's best off just seeing how the Mistwalker stuff does. If all else fails, who knows?

They don't need to wait, Blue Dragon's already the most successful game they've ever had there.

I really hope Lost Odyssey is amazing. I can't stand how it has random battles, but I'll forgive it as long as it's an amazing story.

Lost Odyssey looks like a bland Final Fantasy clone to me. BD is just really charming.

Blue Dragon is cool and all, but it seems more like a Shrek where I'm looking for a Collateral.

I'm going to get Blue Dragon for sure, because it will be a historical moment I can speak of years down the line, but, Lost Odyssey has me a bit closer.

Probably. I don't think Sony can keep Capcom from mult-platforming their games.

I've been saying that all along :(
DMC4 will be on the 360.

Well then, you've been right all along.

Isn't Capcom in financially rocky straits anyways? So the last thing they're going to do is burn their bridges with Microsoft on ANY game.

They can't because they don't own Capcom. If Sony offers a lot of money to keep it exclusive and Capcom takes it, well then, they've accepted money and can't release it.

More than likely, if they're not in the green as some people have said, they would probably forego that and just have a release on both systems or all three.. it'd end up with them getting ALOT more money.

True, especially with the hype Capcom's games manage to get. Capcom just had to close Clover Studios to save their financial asses, that's one sign as to why their games are going multiplat.

Clover wasn't losing them that much money, and keeping clover open wouldn't have sunk them, but then again I'm talking to a person who doesn't bother to pay attention to the finanical statements. Capcom is making more money now then they have been in a while. It was their none gaming portion of the company that really fragged them down around 2000, thankfully they closed it.

Capcom wouldn't become Microsoft first party, or any first party, not in a million years.

So when Capcom said the reason they were closing the company for financial reasons they didn't mean it?

Idiot.

Nobody means what they say! It's a proven fact, no one is ever telling the truth when they communicate anything.

[Disclaimer: This post might contain an outright lie, half-truth, or the fallacious phrase 'It's a proven fact']

Wow WHF did I say their officially stated reason wasn't because of Finances? Oh wait, you're the one who claimed Financial hell knowing nothing about Capcoms finances. Care to elaborate on that a bit just to show how much you're talking out of your ass.

Clover wasn't a detremental drag on the company and that is a fact. Any person with half a brain can look at their finances and tell that Clover wasn't generated unstustainable loses by any means, (all you need to do is corrolate their earnings reports with the formation of the sudio and look at their seperate devision statements to get a pretty good idea) and Clover was closed more due to a new idiology within the company of how it should conduct itself, rather then a obscene or worrysome financial detrement.

Which if you could read was what I said in the first place; not that Capcom didn't close the studio due to finances.

There goes Zenien contradicting herself and published fact again.

Don't worry people, at least I know what I'm talking about.

Clover was closed because it made fiscal sense, thank you all.
