Playstation 4 and the importance of E3 2015

Is that the release date for it? Wow, looking forward to seeing how it does. I won't be able to play until June.

Yeah, for the States anyway. 25th for EU, 26th for JP.

Oh right nice one, didn't realise it was right around the corner. Look forward to seeing what everyone says about it. I guess there must be gameplay on youtube by now, or if not then I'll check it out after release.

An embargo on reviews means that publications and sites aren't allowed to put out their reviews and scores until a certain time and date.

If the embargo date is very close to release date suspicions are aroused as to the reason.

oh. so sony stated that they put an embargo on the reviews and that's why they won't come out till tomorrow?

Typically there is either an embargo, or they simply don't send out advanced copies. They've sent out advanced copies.

So there must be an embargo.

meh. I don't like these review embargos.
Movies do similar things as well, mostly the sh**ty ones though. As in they won't have advanced press screenings for the film so the critics have to wait like just about everyone else in getting to see how the movie is.

50 shades & chappie didn't. those are 2 movies recently this year that were fairly popular in the box office. btw, i replied to you in the alcohol thread

good point, thunder. there was no embargo on the order, i don't think. i wonder if sony is doing this because of that.

Everyone is so risk adverse. Publishers don't even release demos anymore because they're afraid that if people can try the game, they won't buy it. I think this points to a large problem. Games aren't being designed to be fun anymore. Everyone wants their tearjerker story and cinematography. I'm glad Ready at Dawn fell flat on their faces with The Order. "Gameplay is something that... it's a game, we make games, we can't get around it." It couldn't have happened to a more deserving developer.

Can you not do both? I think Naughty Dog at least has proven that you can.

this.

and, bioware with the ME series.

man, a lotta good games do. it's just that in the grand scheme of things there aren't that many tbh. It feels like most people nowadays care most about competitive multiplayer.

Not particularly. I've been over this before, so I'll keep it brief because I know my opinions on Naughty Dog's recent output ruffles some posters' feathers.

I'll limit it to Uncharted since I only played like five hours of The Last of Us.

  • The shooting isn't very good.
  • The platforming requires no skill whatsoever.
  • The puzzles are simplistic.
  • The stories are pretty basic adventure serial type of stuff.
  • The presentation is almost unanimously agreed upon as being top notch, however I would make the argument that it's only good if you highly value Hollywood-style cinematic storytelling in games. Which apparently most people do, so feel free to disregard my dumb opinions.

In other words...

alright, I think you're justified in not having uncharted your cup of tea. for the record, the climbing/platforming was the most fun part for me to play and it looks like it'll be more refined/deeper in Uc4.

For me what they do is a fusion of gameplay, which I like, and cinematic storytelling. As opposed to something like Metal Gear Solid 4 which is not as blended and leans hard towards the latter.
