If you guys listen to the commentary on Episode IV during the Lightsaber fight, Lucas admits he had no back story to Obi Wan and Vader and that the backstory was suppose to remain mysterious. The idea of them knowing each other was that they had a history, audience understood they had a history, but you weren't exactly suppose to know what it was.

Then insert prequels, which was something Lucas made up wayyyy after the original trilogy. Lucas had no story. He had a page of notes of the characters in the OT. Then he was lost in making the prequels, which is why most people hate them.

What is interesting is that most Star Wars fans think Lucas knew the prequel in his head since the beginning, that is untrue.

When Lucas says you are suppose to watch the saga from Ep.1-6, he is lying.

You really are suppose to watch Ep 4-6, then the prequel. If you watch them in a series, then the best part of empire, is the twist, Vader is Luke's father. If you watch them in order, it wont be a surprise...Just boring.

And the whole scene where Luke kind of likes Leia..well if u watch it in order, you will know how dumb it is for Luke to be fallin for leia.

That's the way i usually watch them.
and yeah, he didn't have a f***ing clue about their back story when he made the OT.
Also, Leia wasn't meant to be his sister, it was supposed to be a new character for Episodes VII-IX.
It would have been cool if he seperated the stories. Episodes IV-VI were about Luke, and episodes VII-IX were about his sister.

That's not entirely accurate. If you read the Adventures of Luke Starkiller Draft of A New Hope, you get all of that backstory. I'm sure you can find it on the net somewhere.

Luke Starkiller is a whole other version of Star Wars. It is more like Lord of the Rings than the actual Star Wars Ep.4. There is little prequel or OT scenes in there.

The backstory for Vader/Obi Wan has been out way before the prequels.

It's true that Lucas made up the whole brother sister thing as he went along... but to say he had no clue? I don't know what you guys are watching... Episode 4 clearly makes references to the CLone Wars and distinctly states the relationship between Obi Wan and Anakin... the whole build up to ROTS was known pretty much after Empire Strikes back

Lucas says alot of weird **** during the commentaries

He kinda already knew what happened before he made 1-3. They mentioned the Clone Wars in episode 4, they told you of Anakins fall to the darkisde in episode 6. Lucas just had trouble putting other stuff in.

My kids are gonna watch the movies in non-chronological order, with the OT first and the prequels second. Most people seem to agree it's better that way since you get the shock of Vader being Luke's father, which dissapears if you saw Anakin become Vader first. I like the prequels, but you should only watch the series in chronological order if you've already seen them all. First timers must always watch the originals first.

Why would you let your kids even watch the prequels? :(

ROTS is every bit as bad as TPM and AOTC, IMHO.

ISN'T IT TRUE YOU WROTE EPISODE 1 OVER THE WEEKEND!?!?! I want my 8 bucks back.

Hah, that episode is awesome.

I seriously think George Lucas is a pathological liar. He constantly makes claims along the lines of "I always intended Star Wars to be a 6-part story", however following the success of A New Hope he claimed it was a 12 part story that he had mapped out. Following Jedi, he claimed to have a 9 part story but he was going to wait until technology caught up with his ideas to make the additional 6 movies. Following the prequels it became that he always planned only 6 movies.

Another thing is the Leia/Luke relationship and how Lucas claims to have always planned it. For proof against that one need look no further than the Star Wars novel Splinter of the Mind's Eye, which started as an outline for a low budget sequel to Star Wars in case it didn't do too well in the box office. Afterwards he helped the author write it following A New Hope. Throughout it, Luke and Leia are pretty much dry humping each other. Yet Lucas helped write and approve this knowing Luke and Leia were siblings? Please.

The man is a pathological liar.

I agree 100% Also, remember when they kissed in Empire Strike Back? Does Lucas have an answer for that?

yeah, i remember Leia kissed Luke twice in Empire...

Lucas' genius or negligence at work? hmmmm...puzzling this is!

Just goes to show that Lucas is a hack. A successful hack, but a hack all the same.

It is on the net and it's totally different. So different. It is not "backstory" for Star Wars at all.

But anyway, in Star Wars Vader says:
"When I left you, I was but the learner; now I am the master."
That's a pretty clear backstory indication.

I don't think lucas had plans for prequels until ppl were demanding one. Far as the kiss thing. /shrug so what if he knew they were siblings, the audience didnt. So,made for a good climatic moment. I had no problems with 'kiss', not exactly sure what the issue was with it. Ya, in hind site makes it look like incest, lol;but who who knew..

There's no need for conjecture since he's talked at length about this.
He Did want to start with episode one, but it would've been prohibitively expensive at the time, to depict the Clone Wars, too large a scope/too crappy technology.

The advances in Computer graphics were the main thing that prompted him to do the prequels, I believe specifically it was after he saw Jurassic Park, but also some of his experience on Young Indiana Jones...how they could take 8 people on horses and use computers to make it look like a hundred people on horses.

But it still wasn't all planned out, it was more vague and constantly being revised and changed.
In fact with a lot of the proposed backstory, he just used it to get cool names, and used them on characters that weren't related in any way, like a villain might've been called Mace Windu, and he liked the name, so he used it for Sam Jackson, lots of stuff like that.
