The Offical "I Don't Hate George Lucas" Thread

Loved ur entire post, Doctor Jones, but i gotta add to this bit:

The PT has actually enhanced my views of the OT. To be honest, i wasnt wowed by Vader as a child like so many were :oldrazz: and i just saw him as some really evil dude. But after he PT i realized there was more to him than that. I cant relate at all to Anakin and his choices, but the prequels did add a humanity to the character that i can apreciate.

Oh and regarding ur comment on Jake as the best Anakin i have to agree. The other blond kid auditioned great, but Jake's performance had something that for me worked better.

Exactly. But it's a shocking and startling transition to innocent boy to a tragic figure who becomes a sith lord. Just seeing him from being a sweet innocent eight year old who has a true heart and then transforming in a cold machine with barely a heart at all is very startling. Jake really completed that image for me.

I don't hate anyone whom I haven't met personally.

I've seen plenty of kids act better than him. He just has no talent. I heard him do a voice over for a movie...man, it was bad.

Ok lets do this damn thing already...
Anytime you get a bad performance from a child ALL of the blame rests squarely on the shoulders of the director.I dont care who the child actor or director in question is.You have to take the responsibility.Theres no such thing as a child prodigy actor.Never was.
Columbus got a great performance out of Culkin because he gave line readings right off camera.Shyamalan got a great performance out of Haley Joel because he worked with him everyday before every scene. You have a very limited amount of time with a child actor on set each day so you have to make the most of it.Clearly this is where Lucas dropped the ball.Lets be honest here. The man has a reputation for caring very little for his actors delivery.
Dont get me wrong, I make no excuses for Jake Loyd. The kid sucked. But, it didn't have to be that way and thats all Lucas's fault.

He needs to stop with Indiana Jones, and SW, just do something else...I thought Indiana 4 was total SNAFU,and Clone Wars was a BORE FEST..Starting too lose alot of faith in the man, just hope his WWII movie if it comes out is any good...
Though I would like to see the 3-D SW,as long as its not in cartoon..I just dislike those animations for his Clone Wars movie...anywho...He's rich he just either needs to just write and let others direct(see Empire)....
I don't hate the man I just think he needs to let other ppl take over...

Well, "other people" took over the Clone Wars movie...That went well.

There is letting others take over then there is letting the right people take over. Besides I am sure Lucas himself had some input in the creation of that disaster.

I suppose he had to approve the final product, so yes.

Indeed it's all a matter of opinion. I loved Indy 4, i'm enjoying the CW and i enjoyed the PT aswell. For me the best SW movie is ANH, and he directed that one :cwink:

^Exactly. People forget that. I see that's what people bring up all the time. "I don't care if he directed ANH. Blah blah blah."

But I do understand with a limited budget, Lucas could concentrate on his story more. He still did with the PT. Though yes, the CG and everything could of been done a bit more tastefully, he pushed the envelope of film and technology.

I just watched TPM and AOTC and some of ROTS docs and featurettes last night and this morning. It was interesting to see how Lucas handled everything. Even in a screening of Ep. 1 he questioned himself if he even went to far. It's not like he was oblivious to it, he wanted to push the way we make films. They shot on location, went all around the world, built sets. Yes, they did some stuff digital. Frankly, these are his films. He's a visual filmmaker, he tells the story with the visuals. Nothing wrong with that. Just another style of filmmaking.

^ Nothing really wrong with that at all.In fact when hes really pushing the limits of telling a visual story to the max it seems thats when most fanboys get their panties in a twizzle. (Anakin riding the speeder bike in AOTC) In phantom menace you can almost sense his annoyance in the plot elements he tries to get past as fast as possible.Get the planning to capture the Viceroy out of the way, the Gungan battle setup, the jedi off a few droids to get in the palace and Anakin jumps in the fighter cockpit ,bang bang bang,..Now we can sink our teeth into the third act.
like,"Im trying to tell my story and all this plot keeps getting in the way!Stop holding me back PLOT!"

^ I never got that sense at all. It was a nicely put together scene. The switching between Theed shootout, to Anakin, to the duel, to the Gungan battle is difficult to do.

I don't hate Lucas. I love ROTS & Indy 4. TPM is okay, but I hate AOTC. Bad love story, though the Obi-Wan investigation was cool.

TCW is (IMO) the best TV show of the year.

I liked ROTS and Indy 4 is not bad. TPM could have done without the yippee dialogue and Jar Jar but still not a bad movie. I liked AOTC without the horribly mismatched love story and dialogue between Padme and Anakin. It is almost crawl out of your skin bad.

But I will forever love watching the original series, over and over.
