i prefer adjusted gross'. makes more sense to me to put all movies on even playing ground despite when in history they were released.

Adjusted gross does not put the movies on an even playing ground. Back when Gone With The Wind was originally released, you couldn't wait till it came on TV or video, or download it online. You had to go see it in theaters or not at all.

there also used to be far less people with far less theaters with far less transportation and far less promotion, yet gone with the wind still killed avatar at the box office.

see, you can come up with a million circumstances for reasons why people may be driven to or away from seeing a movie in the theater. its impossible take them all into account. but ticket prices are ticket prices, and when you even them out, gone with the wind along with numerous other movies grossed far more than avatar.

I think number of tickets sold would be a better estimation. You don't hear anything about gross sales for CD sales.

how about we re-release gone with the wind, last year was 70 years after all, and we'll release it in 3D or whatever and see if it outdoes Avatar.

GWTW > everything to me lol

more than 2 tickets to GWTW sold to 1 Avatar

Plus, you could prolly break GWTW down into 2 or 3 movies. Compare any Trilogy you like with GWTW and just think how many tickets they would have sold if they had split the movie up.

GWTW > All.

i was never a fan of gone with the wind. probably because its my mom's favorite movie.....and hitler's. but clearly it did some damn good business.

i love everything about that movie from the cinematography, the score, the cast, the history of making it, the 'curses' etc.

its probably a movie i should watch again. i only ever saw it when i was little and my mom had it on and i was bored to death by it....as any kid would be. so, im sure my distaste for it is completely unfounded, ha ha ha.

Clark Gable's performance in GWTW is one of my top five favourite acting performances in history, and the rest of the cast is great too. It is easily one of the best movies ever made.

I feel the same way about Vivien Leigh. Between Streetcar Named Desire and GWTW... she's my favorite "classic" actor.

no wonder we get along so well. i adore her! she's onscreen for like 90% of that film and you can't take your eyes off her. she says soo much with a facial expression without even saying a word. and sadly, i can't really think of many actresses these days that can do the same. not to mention she was one of the prettiest people i think i've ever seen.

I didn't even mind a Brit and a Yank playing two of the most iconic Southerners of all time either.

Me too, it's just one of the best movies i've ever seen, period.
