Walt Disney Pictures' Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest has reached $991.9 million worldwide & added another $11.8 million from 6,681 screens in 49 territories overseas this weekend to push its massive international total to $579.1 million, and to $991.9 million worldwide.

"Dead Man's Chest" has surpassed Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone ($976.5 million) and climbed to the third spot on the all-time worldwide blockbuster list.

Buena Vista International predicts that the sequel will cross the $1 billion mark in global ticket sales by next weekend. The movie will join 1997's Titanic ($1.85 billion) and 2003's The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King ($1.12 billion) as the only three films in industry history to break the $1 billion box office barrier.

Pirates of the Caribbean: At Worlds End, the third installment, hits theaters on May 25, 2007.

Arrgh, matey. that's a lot of booty.

Amazing in itself, and it makes you realise just how incredibly popular Titanic was. Titanic made almost $2 billion. Unbelievable.

Who ever thought that a Movie based on a Disney Ride would make this much :p

And that was many years ago. With todays ticket prices, that could be pushed up even further.

lol... and the way Titanic opened, that will never happen again.

I'm amazed DEAD MAN'S CHEST is doing quite so well, especially when it resulted in a pretty mixed response. Just goes to show that people love Jack Sparrow.

People love the escape from reality, globe trotting adventure, the imaginative fantasy world, Keira Knightly, and the comedy. That's my view of it.

"But I wonder Sparrow. Can you live with this? Can you condemn an innocent man, a friend to a lifetime of servitude in your name while you roam free?"

"Yep. I'm good with it." :D

Drink up, me earties... Yo ho.

If anything crossed the $1b mark, it should have been DragonHeart. :)

i hate when people are talking about fully cgi characters, they always forget the awesomeness that is drago.

i hate how those stupid jurassic park dinosaurs always get the credit, bah

This movie deserves half of what it got, but I don't really care since its good for the box office.

Yeah, in North America alone it would have done over $840 million with the ticket price of today. It sold over 120 million tickets, while POTC 2 have sold about half of that. Even if a movie someday might make more money than Titanic I doubt we will ever see a movie that joins the exclusive 100+ million tickets club.

But POTC 2's numbers are still impressive, when you consider the first one made something between 600 and 700 million worldwide. It's a little like Shrek 2 all over again
