I recently redid my computer just the other night and did the usual steps I do after a restore (re-installing the Operating System, getting the internet, downloading virus protection and downloading the updates for my system before I begin browsing). I use Internet Explorer 7 as my browser (I hate IE8 and don't use it). I'm getting this very annoying error when I visit a specific site when a pop-up comes out and says "Internet explorer cannot open the internet site" and then the URL of the site is also there followed by "Operation aborted." I get it for a few other sites as well, and previously have never gotten it before.

I've looked up this problem on Google and have tried some solutions that have been mentioned as fixing it, which include resetting the IE settings and disabling active scripting, but nothing has worked thus far. What are some solutions guaranteed to help me with this? And please don't suggest I use another browser, because I've tried others but hate their interface and much prefer the interface and set-up of IE7. I hope to find a solution for this very soon. Thanks in advance.

Is your firewall and/or anti malware software to blame?

I'd hate to break it to you but IE7 is getting pretty old now. IE7 came out in 06 and IE8 came out in 08. IE9 just came out a few weeks ago. You might be fighting a losing battle trying to hold onto 7. I would try uninstalling/reinstalling 7 or google to see if somebody out there has a souped up version they made of IE7 for free download.

are you opposed to using another web browser? I highly recommend Opera

there's also Firefox, Google Chrome...

Firefox 4 just came out and I'm loving it. I haven't used Chrome in a while but I heard that's made some big improvements also.

What everyone else said. Get either Firefox or Google Chrome. I think that people usually say is that Firefox is less complicated to use, but Google Chrome has more features.

It shouldn't be, I have the settings the same as before on the previous system settings, so that shouldn't be a problem.

Somewhat, I prefer the simple layout and interface of IE7. I tried Firefox and Chrome once, didn't like them at all. Seeing as IE9 is out now, is it closer to IE7 in terms of the overall interface? If it is I may upgrade.

How long did you try Google Chrome/Firefox? If you've been using IE for a long time, it's going to take a little bit of time to get use to changing over to a different web browser.

Not for long but it was long enough to determine I didn't like the interface.

I meant to say yes, I did try both Firefox and Google Chrome briefly.

Firefox is supposedly the easier one to navigate, so you should try using it again. It's gonna take some time to get used to if you've been using IE for a long time. You should just give it about a week and if you don't like it, then switch back.

I don't like Firefox at all and would rather stick with IE7. I only used Firefox briefly, but it was long enough for me to come to the conclusion it wasn't for me.

Edit: just now found out the version of IE7 I use, it's version 7.0.6000.16982

Is it not for you because it doesn't have the same features IE has? Or is it because you didn't know where every feature was located and you didn't feel comfortable using it?

I just didn't like the overall interface and feeling of it. I much prefer IE7's simpler interface and get-up, and would prefer to stick with it.

I have never heard of someone preferring IE over any other broswer 'Firefox, Chrome, Opea etc..and I work in the IT field. :wow:

Me neither and since IE is outdated compared to all of the other web browsers named, I'm assuming he's used IE for probably most if not all of his life. And it does seem weird changing something like that at first, but you usually get used to it.

It's just personal preference for me, I know most people favor Firefox or Chrome, but I don't care for those two.

i dont like Firefox of Chrome either, but I like Opera a whole lot

I've never used Opera before. Still, I'd prefer to find a solution to fix this IE7 problem, I'm sure there's a way IE7 can still be used and this problem neutralized in it.

What does the website use? Flash? Java? Could it be a Plug-in problem? If only a certain website is troubled, you should modify your security settings and allow everything and try to open it. I remember there being a security feature to allow a website full access, I'm not sure if it still exists on IE7, but you can try adding that site.

Another question you could ask is: Did Microsoft come out with some security fix for it's Window's system that now disables certain features that IE7 used?

You could tinker and try all you want, but lots of people here have suggested what you don't want, and that would be a quick fix to your problems.

You're going to need to upgrade sooner or later. IE7 isn't always going to be supported by Microsoft. There's always a learning curve when it comes to other browsers.

Everything is allowed on my settings and I'm still getting the problem. If worse comes to worst I'll upgrade my browser, as much as I may hate the interface IE8/IE9. I just so much prefer the simpler layout of IE7, which is why I've stuck with it all this time.

This problem seems to have gone away since I installed some updates for my computer, so for now it's over with.
