Interview with Christopher Young at AICN

Interesting. I still would have preferred Elfman to socre it. I liked the Sandman theme, especially his birth scene, but everything else good about the score (besides Harry's death) was Elfman's work, which was lackluster in YOung's hands at that.

Oh well.

I like the Sandman theme and also the black suit theme.

Some of the score was good, but other parts sounded disturbingly like the score from Batman Forever and B & R.

Sandman's creation scene was the best.

Even from the intro sequence of when the symbiote begins to take over is horrible. The transition from the spider-man theme to young's stuff was awful.

The Peter vs Harry fight #2 was awful. Yeah I get it, friends fighting, but the music made it seem comical, and didn't fit the mood very well. Peter was pissed and was fighting his best friend harry. He even through a bomb at his face.

Young.... I hope you didn't get paid a lot.

I don't see why there is so much complaining about the music during the mansion fight. I mean it is just underscoring. I think once it goes into the lair it gets very intense. The score wasn't very noticable and just was background music to raise tension and puncuate the dialogue in that scene.

But yeah the symbiote theme, especially when Peter first sees himself in the black suit is horrible. That should have been a quiet moment with the music slowly rising and then BOOM as he swings off into the night. Not this "HERE I AM. THE SINISTER BLACK SUIT!" moment.

I hated when it was quiet, the gloomy moment when he looks at the black suit and then BUM BUM BUM BAAAA BUMMMMMM...it was dumb. Sandman's birth was about the only thing that was good.

The mansion scene still bugs me a bit. Other then that I think he hit the nail on the head every other time. Sure, it was a bad case of overscoring with the black suit/reflection scene but we shouldn't blame Young for that. That's the fault of whoever decided to place it there. I did like it when the score played when Spidey looked at himself and said "What is this?" It sounded so menacing.
