Yes, the family jewels are too large and of course he can stretch ANY part of his body! He is getting a lot of mileage out of that remark. The talk show hosts seem to think that line is a hoot! At least when they talk about that, we get to see that wonderful Ioan smile and hear that laugh!

I think they're just countering that remark Julian made in the Australian interview where he jokingly described his character of Victor Von Doom as "quite atttractive and well hung...."
I just started to watch the hornblower series I'm impressed! This Ioan guy got some skills.
There was an article somewhere I read very recently, Ioan mentioned that there have been some pre-production stuff happening (plot writing etc.) for the next hornblower series I'll go look for it so there's proof.
*Fixed the pic on my last post! Hope you can see it!*
Don't look too hard Sassycat. Hornblower appears to be dead in the water right now. A&E seems to have changed their direction and are not producing intelligent, well acted, exciting movies, with to die for heroes at this time. Ioan is ready to do more but no one is stepping forward to back the next set of movies. Got any money??
Perhaps the best hope for the future of Hornblower lies with the success of the Fantastic Four and the boost it will give to Ioan. If Fantastic Four spawns a sequel or two, I'll be happy. If it indirectly spawns more Hornblowers I'll be happier!

See how Hornblower-anorexic I am??? I'm being deprived of our Ioan! A&E must think of the children who need to watch these for Io-uhhh....EDUCATION purposes, yeah THAT'S right! No really I've been wanting see "Hortatio Hornblower" for awhile

Me too, Mrs. F. Lots of good things will happen for Ioan fans if Ioan becomes really big.
(And all of you, stop thinking about that other thread! )
**************.com: An off topic question that I have to ask for the Horatio Hornblower fans... When is the next installment? You left the last one kind of hanging, with your new wife and all.
Ioan Gruffudd: Yes, I know, I know, we left it hanging. To be honest with you, you'll have to ask the people over there at A&E because they are the decision makers when it comes to Hornblower, but the latest I heard they were still writing and developing scripts for another couple of episodes. So, I dunno. I'd love to play that part throughout every stage of his career. It's so unique.
My favorite Ioan role is Hornblower, but he did look mighty fine as Lancelot. I'm not a big fan of KA as a film. I did watch it once in the theater, but then rented the DVD just to rewatch Ioan's scenes.
Poor Ioan! He seems to have had the misfortunate in having gotten a malfunctioning headset for the translation. When he fooled with it and then finally removed it and gave it this p*****off look, I LMAO!!
Then on top of that, when it comes his turn to answer questions about the film, what do they ask him???......about his possibly becoming the next James Bond!!!
Cripes!!! What a waste of his time that was! Everyone else talked about the film.
Hey, Ioan fans, I just saw the film at a Chicago screening! Here's my Ioan -centered review! I posted in that massive reviews thread on page 1, but it'll get buried there quickly, so I thought I'd post it here:
This movie is Fun! It's a summertime, get-the-popcorn, have-some-fun kind of movie. There was a crowd of a few hundred, along with a dozen or so press reviewers and much of the film drew huge laughs from everyone, particularly Johnny Storm's character. He had absolutely the best lines, and there were times people were laughing so loudly that we couldn't hear the next lines.
Just to let you know where I'm coming from, I wasn't that familiar with the comics. Almost all I know I've read here. but I thought that the changes made from the comics worked, at least for a "normal" (i.e. non-comic fan) person. It made the story plausible, more "realistic" maybe. And there's enough nods to the comic (ie Latveria) that I suspect the sequel will make the comic fans a little happier.
I did not find this film cheesy; I thought it was funny. Really, I had no cringe-moments or a desire to groan anytime while watching. It was just... fun. (I'm predicting "Funtastic 4" to be a headline for some of the reviews)
The acting was good all around. Chris Evans of course had the best lines, but Michael conveyed Ben's sadness well. Jessica mostly worked as Sue for me, though I did giggle b/c when she first showed up on the screen, there were whistles from my audience. In fact, it drowned out the line!) Julian was quite effective as he's transfomring into the villain; I felt for him!
And finally, my favorite, Ioan, who's wonderful as Reed. Earnest, a little insecure, too cerebral, and lovably dorky. His guilt over Ben, his confusion over his feelings for Sue, his slow rise to leadership...Ioan conveys it really well. I suspect that some reviewers may overlook him because his part is so much less showy than Chris Evans, or Michael's. But he really captures Reed--the brilliant mind who doesn't always deal with people well, who's uncomfortable in the spotlight.
I went in hoping for fun action, yeah, but what I especially wanted was lots of good relationship moments--Ben and Reed, Reed and Sue. Essentially the more Reed the better
The action was really well done, I thought, and the special effects were great. The relationship moments--also really well done, particularly in the first hour or so. My only complaint (I'll put it in spoiler space) ...
OK, the first hour or so of this film, I would have given an A+. It was perfect. But the last 45 minutes or so felt too rushed to me. They seemed to "resolve" the various relationship conflicts too quickly and lost some character moments because of that. The Reed/Sue relationship--the tension, Sue's anger, Reed's inept dealing with her--is done really well for the first hour, but doesn't have the arc I was hoping for that would make the end as emotionally satisfying as it could have been. I mean, it was still really sweet, but I felt they had lost a little something in the cutting room. Also Ben and Alica is too brief. I wanted more!
Oh, and one other complaint, we need more Reed!
BUT those concerns aside, let me close by reiterating that this movie is FUN and I had a thoroughly good time, as will most of youl. Also, I think this movie will do REALLY well at the boxoffice. It's fun, light, good for parents and kids, and this summer there have been very few movies like that. It's a real crowd pleaser, and I'm now guessing it will make $200 million in the U.S. Families will flock to this, probably more than once.
Oh yeah, one more thing, the reviewers seemed to be having a ball! The reviewer next to me told before it began that he was "dreading the movie" (he had the usual complaints--why Tim Story? I don't like the look of the Thing. etc.) I told him I expected it to be a lot of fun, but he was still skeptical. But after it ended, he said, "you got your wish! Fun movie!"
Finally, I haven't seen a lot of superheromovies. But for the fun factor, I'd rank it with Incredibles and Spidey 1. (though I think Spidey1 and especially Spidey 2 had more emotional depth than F4.) But I'm very hopeful for a little more of that in the sequels!
I totally agree with you entwife...Ioan did great with Reed...all the little frustrations--whether it be concerning Sue or helping Ben, he brought acrossed nicely...geeze I can't say much more because you've said it.
also don't forget Ioan is on Conan O'Brien "tonight"---Wednesday night

Yup, I did but I'm a terrible review writer...#588 in the merged review thread...I might be able to write something more coherent and specific after another viewing. From what little I've read FF comic-wise it seemed like everyone got their characters well---so exciting to see Mr. F as a actual person

I'm watching TRL and I think I might have either trouble breathing or start crying in theaters when Ioan comes on he's that much of a beautiful impact on me!
Hmmm, no, it seems about even-handed. Johnny Storm is a fun character, and he gets the best lines and the most audience reaction, so people will remember him. I'm sure some goofy reviewers wil say Chris Evan "stole" the movie b/c they like his character.
Chris DID play JOhhny very well. But Ioan played Reed beautifully! Hes not as flashy a character. Ioan "gets" his cerebral nature, his dorkiness, his sometimes inept social skills. I loved his portrayal, and I can't wait for the sequels(s)!
