I'm part Irish, Italian, German, Dutch Irish, Native American Indian, Canadian Indian, European, French, and a few more that I can't remember. I'm like the unification of the human race, where we all become one or something.

You're like the European division of dmp07 lately.

At any rate, the Irish have long been treated very poorly both in Europe and here in the States. To the point that I've heard them referred to as "the blacks of Europe", as racist as that sounds. The atrocities committed against the Irish people are numerous and horrendous.

jag

'Tis true. My great-grandfather came here through Ellis Island way back when and he was actually jumped in the street and lynched just because he was an Irish man. :csad:

I love my heritage and everything, but really, what have the Irish done for America that everyone knows about?

I know that. I want to stir up some controversy. I'm bored. :csad:
I may be wrong. But wasn't the first police forces formed as a way to keep the Irish in line?

Given many Irish-Americans an excuse for drinking. Well, I should say another excuse aside from beer and alcohol being so damn great.

Because blacks are minorties and they feel like they have to speak to be known, the Irish on the other hand have done many, many great things for America.People know this,so this does not really have to be mentioned.

Not sure about that, but the Paddy Wagon was given it's name because of all the Irishmen that would get arrested.

I love the Irish!

I wish I was Irish :(

I wrote a book about an Irish man.

I'm Italian but I like Celtic symbols, they also make great tattoos...even though they are over used. I'd like to add a Celtic tattoo to my others but it would be meaningless. :(

Conan 'O Brien is the only Irish person that seems to defy stereotypes, aside from looks. He resembles Archie Andrews in personality and appearance.

what about Stephen Colbert?

My Great-Grandmother (mother's side) was Irish.

The rest are all Canucks but I got some Green in me :)

I'm British/German.

I can't turn my back on me.

I won't oversimplfy it, but some people who have a mixture of cultures usually are the ones that don't care about their history, though that's not alawys the case. A pure Irish person seems more intent on their family tree than a guy that's part irish, italian, russian, with a drop of lebanese on the side.

For all those spinnin' tales about the Irish ... I give to you the following ...

The most prevalent theory is based on the term "Paddy" (a common Irish shortening of Patrick), which was used (sometimes as slang) to refer to Irish people.[3] Irishmen made up a large percentage of the officers of early police forces in many American cities. Thus, this theory suggests that the concentration of Irish in the police forces led to the term "paddywagon" being used to describe the vehicles driven by police. An alternative theory is similarly based on the term "Paddy" but states that the term arose due to the number of immigrant Irish being arrested for having consumed too much alcohol and taken away in the vehicles.[4] The final theory holds that the name originates from the padding used on the inside of police horse-drawn carriages to prevent injury.[5]

So before you go a-slanderin' and getting the Irish Riled up ... you best get your story straight.

Here in Toronto we called it a Paddy Wagon because if they sent for one, it was likely driven by an Irishman coming to collect your sorry arse! :woot:

Happy St. Patricks Day!

"Paddy" is an offensive term, just so you know. Its not something any Irish man (or woman) would let you call them.

And I doubt the term even originated here, because its used in Australia also.

Terms mean different things to different people.

A *** in Britain is great to suck on ... in toronto not so much ...

Referring to the actual horsedrawn carriage ... Australia was settled by the English (mostly) who also used the term, but they were more commonly called Black Maria's there.

The Wagon ... not the Irish.

:)

Does Boston still make the river green?
