Iron Man 2 Iron man 2 "suiting up" scene

That "keeping it grounded" "keeping it real" is just baloney, everyone's beloved "Favs" didn't seem to have a problem with bending the "keeping it grounded" rule when he introduced the idea of a hand held 'Men In Black' neurolyzer looking doohickey that causes temporary paralysis just by holding it up to a persons ear. Yeah, way to keep it real "Favs".

You can't tell the difference in levels of believability between a device that uses sonics for temporary paralysis, and a huge metallic suit magically fitting into a container at least ten times smaller than the suit?

Yeah it's a huge difference, but still in my opinion the temporary paralysis neurolyzer device is unrealistic, miniature 'arc reactors' implanted in a persons chest is unrealistic, so a suit of body armor inside a briefcase shouldn't be too much of a problem for him to stretch believability.

I wish he would just get off of that whole "keep it grounded" garbage all together if he's just going to ignore it when it becomes inconvenient. Knowing Favreu he'll probably just use something called "memory metal" and it will perform like Batman's cape, "regularly flexible,..but put a current through it the molecules realign and become rigid",...and there you go instant Iron Man suit from a briefcase, and then he'll turn right around and say, well I'm trying to "keep it real".

How ever "unrealistic" you find those things, the "Suit in a briefcase" idea is physically impossible! Fact. Even if it could fit, it would be too dense and too heavy to carry. This is the suit that broke through Starks roof from only a couple feet's drop.

"Keeping it grounded" doesn't mean removing all things that are unrealistic. There'd be no Iron Man movie if that's what it meant.
The idea with keeping a fantastical movie like this grounded is to make sure to establish some very limited rules. Draw lines where you say: "After this point it's just too much."
I can completely see how the suit in briefcase bit passes the line established in the first movie, while the sonic device that temporarily paralyzes people does not.

Yeah I'm glad you brought that up because that scene always looked kinda screwy to me, that suit that's so heavy and dense that broke through Starks' roof from only a couple feet's drop is the same suit that's so heavy and dense but was easily pushed and ran over by an Audi that had no forward momentum going....I guess Favreu was trying to "keep it real' if not consistant.

For us Iron Man folks, we need to see at least a representation of the briefcase...LOL I mean back in the day it was like on of those thin real businessman briefcases-and the reasoning was it 'collasped' flat via switch or a button, and even back then I was like Yearight-there's even some fake specs in one of the older armory Marvel Indexes about how it worked

but just like Superman's phonebooth you have to aknowledge it as a story device, even if it's for laughs, which it likely will be.

I think they should make an inside joke about the suitcase in the film.

Tony should just make a joking remark about fitting his costume into one.

One thing to consider is Iron Man can just change anywhere since his identity is known.

Actually those were two completely different suits(the Mark 2 & mark 3) which were made of different material and probably weighed different than each other. I'm sure his suits get lighter as they become more advanced. I mean, the Mark 1 probably weighed half a ton most likely. The Mark 2 could have been 500 lbs. and the Mark 3 250 lbs. for all we know.

Use the briefcase as a system that brings the suit to Tony.

Why would it be too heavy for a car to push? It's heavy by the standards of what one man can carry in one hand.

It makes sense that it would be different. I'm sure he's learned to streamlime the suiting up...in the first film it seemed he was having issues just getting OUT of the suit. haha

^ yeah this movies story lines starts off 6 months after the first one left off

I always hated the briefcase thing  Makes about as much sense as Flash's costume being in a ring.
I RAAAAAAGE every time!!!
^Thats why he should carry the suit under his clothes. Problem solved.
LOL!

Anyway, i think that the suiting up was the coolest part of IM. It would be a shame if they reduce it in length in the sequel. I expect them to improve it in some way (its a sequel, it cant have the same old tricks), but i would hate to see the briefcase thing.

I would love to see the Extremis suit and way of suiting up. Although its totally implausible, its just too cool to care for physics, and besides it could be explained with a magnetic field or something. Imagine a big magnetic field with holograms and stuff that calculates the position of Stark's body and attaches the pieces. Maybe the holograms could be like DaVinci's man in the circle (Stark is the DaVinci of our time...). But i would leave the "memory cloth" capabilities of the suit (the metal is all soft and so it can be stored in a briefcase. When an electrical current runs through it, it becomes hard. Something like Batman's cape, but more hax) out of the movie.

The suit should be at some other location and "come" to Tony when it's called for. Like Optimus Prime's trailer :o
The suit could operate in autopilot (Jarvis?) and fly towards Stark. It would just fly to him, it wont be able to fight or do anything more. Then it would open up in a convenient way (while still standing) for Stark to "step in" without having to dismantle it into small pieces.

Crashing with the Mark I was worse. The suit was torn to pieces and yet he survived. Hehehe... With Ironman you have to bend the rules. Otherwise, how can you put him into a fight where he is pounded to the ground, thrown through buildings and stuff? His brain would turn into jello from the force!

I didnt see your post earlier... Hehe... that already happens in the comics with his Extremis suit.
Anyway, lets not get into this realism debate that has consumed the Bat-world. If you ask me, a microwave emitter that selectively evaporates water is more plausible and less "WTF" than putting your suit in your ring. There are things that are just plain weird and the wider moviegoing audience would laugh at.

I was just going to say this! Thanks!

Hmm I think no attempt will be made to show a more interesting suit change. Aint broke dont fix it etc......

This is Tony suiting up. The golden under-sheath is stored in his ****ing bones! Damn straight! Take that Flash! It somehow retracts through those pores and is stored in the hollow (where does he put his marrow?) interior of his bones. The suit as i mentioned above can turn soft when he is not using it, and so its easy to fold into a briefcase!
After the Extremis arc Stark was also able to telepathetically operate everything that carried a microchip. Basically, the inner parts of the suit -the undersheath- are fused to his nervous system so that is why he is able to do this. And since its Stark we are talking about, he once reprogrammed all the software of a satellite with his mind! He also got a healing factor second only to Wolverine's.

During the "Civil War", he studies Spiderman and he somehow gives his suit a precognitive sense like his. After all this hax, the writers decided that IM had become too hax and they took away his healing factor and the techno-telepathy of his during the "Secret Invasion" (though i am not so sure about this last bit cause Secret Invasion was too crap for me to bother with). Anyway, here its Tony suiting up in the Extremis suit. Its ****ing cool if you ask me. The movie though should stay away from the bones thing and the techno-telepathy IMHO.

Some want the suitcase, some want to "keep it ground", I say..."is it too much to ask for BOTH?"

Compromise...STEAMER TRUNK!

Its big enough to house a Mark Suit, but small enough that one person can move it around on wheels without it looking too awkward. Something similar to the mini-bar that comes free w/ purchase of a Jericho Missile

Surely Jarvis can put some RC car-remote wheels on this.
