For casting Tony Stark we first need to understand the history.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iron_ManTony Stark enters the undergraduate engineering program at MIT while only 15 years old and graduates at the top of his class. When he was 21, he inherits his father's company, Stark Industries, after his parents are killed in a car accident. One of the first things Stark does is to buy out the company that made the faulty brakes on his parent's car and correct the mechanical problem. While on a visit to "Afghanistan-Operation Enduring Freedom" to see how his new mini-transistors could assist the American war effort, Stark is caught in a booby trap. Captured by a Vietnamese warlord named Wong Chu, and dying from a piece of shrapnel lodged in his heart from the booby trap, Stark is pressed into building weapons for Wong Chu, along with a fellow prisoner, the famed physicist Yin Sen (later called Ho Yinsen). However, Stark and Yin Sen use the workshop to secretly design and construct a suit of powered armor — an iron exoskeleton that gives Stark tremendous strength as well as other abilities — that will not only keep Stark's heart beating, but also allow him to escape. Yin Sen sacrifices himself to buy Stark time to charge the bulky suit of armor, and as Iron Man, Stark makes short work of Wong Chu and his men. On the way back, Iron Man encounters a wounded American Air Force helicopter pilot, Jim Rhodes. Introducing himself as Stark's bodyguard, Iron Man and Rhodes manage to defend themselves against the pursuing North Vietnamese before making it back to American lines. On his return to the US, Stark continues to improve the armor, establishing a dual identity as the adventurer and superhero Iron Man. He also greatly expands his father's company, Stark Industries, eventually renaming it Stark International.**See the above link for the rest.So let's do some analysis. If he is 21 when he inherits Stark, then let's say he is in the CEO/President/Chairman of the Board seat when he is 25 (4 years after he gets the company), that means that he can be in an Iron Man suit by the time he is 26. If the director chooses a younger actor, around that age, then he won't look 50 by the time the thrid movie comes out. I think Terrance Howard is too old for Rhody. My choice were he younger would have been Carl Weathers from Rocky, but he is too old. Anthony Edward Stark is:Height: 6' 1" (1.85 m) Weight: 185 lbs (84.5 kg) Eyes: Blue Hair: Black I would go with an unknown actor no older than 28. Someone who can play urbane and worldly. I would leave the alcoholic part until second movie, crashing to a climax in the third. He wasn't an alcoholic when he got the company and if this is an origin movie, then we need to evolve the same way. As for Mandarin...http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mandarin_(comics)The Mandarin's father was one of the wealthiest men in pre-revolutionary mainland China (who claimed to be a direct descendant of Genghis Khan), and his mother was an English noblewoman. Both died soon after their son's birth, and he was raised by his father's sister, who was embittered against the world and raised him with much the same attitude. He displayed scientific aptitude at an early age and used his inheritance for education in various sciences in China and abroad. As an adult he became a high government official, or mandarin, and became renowned throughout China for his administrative brilliance.**see above link for the rest...Again, I would go with a younger actor. Maybe the guy from Kung Fu Hustle. Younger gives the actor time to age. Still, he would need to be a little older given his role in the Chinese gov. This would not happen to someone who is too young in reality. The key to this movie is to keep it like Batman Begins, steep it in reality except for the parts that deal with the history of the characters. Mandarin's costume will need work because it s just silly. The original armour designs were bulky, rounded and unattractive, but over the years the armour has developed into a lightweight, sophisticated, human-looking suit that has become synonymous with the Marvel brand.Iron man should use the grey suit that is bulkier and boxy. Then move to more advanced suits as the movies progress to the third movie. Most of the suggestions are really bad for casting, too old, not sleek enough, etc. Tony is a blueblood who talked politics and business at the dinner table with his folks. He is not some kid who talked about the Red Sox and went fishing with his dad. Think, Connecticut or New York old money. Tony Stark is an idol for anyone who ever wanted to be rich, living the archetypal playboy lifestyle, complete with gorgeous girlfriends, fast cars and million dollar yachts. Yet for all his cash and bravado, Stark is inherently vulnerable. He relies on his armour to survive, electrical components providing a precious replacement for his dysfunctional heart. In the 1980s, a major story line for the title portrayed Stark’s demise into alcoholism, forcing his best friend Jim to take over the reins as Iron Man. The story line was handled incredibly sensitively for such a medium, and won praise and critical acclaim from major alcoholism support groups across America.http://www.ciao.co.uk/Iron_Man__Review_5261479The reason why this character has been around since the 60's is because the story is solid. Don't change things for the sake of changing them or adding your own flair. That is what happened with Superman and X-Men and both of those movies were terrible. Unwatchable. They have got to get this movie right.

Um, I don't think he was on a visit to AFGHANISTAN when he got captured by a VIETNAMESE warlord!

Otherwise good stuff. I'm sure Afghanistan will play a part in the update for the film and I hope they stay BASICALLY true to the character. As favreau said, main thing is to stay true to the character of Stark and the look of the suit.

I know it was Viet Nam but I made a sligth update to Afghanistan. The rest is a direct quote from Marvel Universe....If they stick to that story....with the right cast, it would be great!

Can you edit that and cut that up into some paragraphs?
