The last fight (to me) was a7/10 compared the overall 8/10 I gave it. While the fight itself was not groundbreaking, I do think that Favreau was brilliant in accomplishing a couple things to satisfy the different kinds of fans;
1) The fans who want their hero to win convincingly; Well, he couldn't, not because he isn't good, but because he was compromised by the old arc reactor. Simple. These fans can go home saying, "if they were on an equal power level, Tony would have thrashed Iron Monger!".
2) The fans who want their damsels-in-distress to be a little bit more proactive (and how many times has this occured in a superhero film?); Well, if Pepper wasn't there, Tony would have died. And she went back into the fray, as the only one without any protection.
3) The fans who want the hero to win and save the day after getting a little beaten up; Tony still told Pepper what to do, so he was still in charge, even though he was getting beaten up!
4) The fans who want a hero (all 3 I think); Watch how slowly the Iron Monger takes to lift off - Were those rockets. Simply, Tony could have escaped at that point if he'd wanted! Tony is not a fairweather hero.
A part of this continues to the fact that Tony was quite simply prepared to sacrifice himself. I mean, if anything shows his character transformation, that did. Who would believe that of the Tony gampling in the casino, hmmm?
And Favreau managed to accomplish all of this without being corny or leaving plotholes (why was his armour compromised etc). Brilliant.
And come on, how predictable was the fight? I mean, I thought the ice would be the downfall of Iron Monger (and I'm sure I'm not in the minority), but actually, the ice did almost nothing actually...
And both their voices sounded incredible in the suits, I wish they'd spoken more. Personally, I loved Stane's chirp (faceplate up) about how he didn't think he'd enjoy this (referring to being in the Iron Monger suit). Somehow I think this was a little chirp to all the adults who think they shouldn't be enjoying a superhero film so much

So all in all, including the fact that there was 2 uber-powerful 'robot-men' throwing down in a city street, the fight was fantastic!
