Iron Man Iron Man vs Iron Monger

For the most part, I liked everything about the final battle. My ONLY problem with the final battle is that Iron Man got his butt kicked and he didn't get a chance to properly beat the crap out of Iron Monger. I HATED that it was Pepper who stopped the Iron Monger by blowing up the roof, despite the fact that she was following Tony's orders..

Considering that the Iron Monger armor is much bigger and much stronger, I think it's only logical that Tony would get his butt kicked.

yeah, I was disappointed they chose to have Iron Man compromised by the Mark1 ark device. I didn't like the "suit failing/ down to emergency power" thing at all, even though that kind of thing happened plenty in the comics.

I mean, the images and symbolism of Pepper replacing his "heart", giving him the old one as gift, and seeing Stane rip it out of his chest again were all fantastic-
but they just did such an amazing job building towards that fight, developing the character and the suit so meticulously, just to kinda pull the rug out from under our hero at the last.

I would have loved to see Stark triumph over Stane in a more direct and powerful fashion: answering the betrayal, becoming truly hardened into Iron Man at that moment.. that kind of thing.

Still, not nearly enough to mar what was my favorite Summer movie of the last 5 years or so.

I liked it, mostly because it was an enjoyable final battle without going too far with the craziness. I think they could have gone very over-the-top if they'd chosen to, and then in the sequel everyone would be wondering how they'd ever top it, and they'd have to go to some ridiculous levels to achieve it. Which has the potential of ruining a good flick.

Which isn't to say that I want them to set their sights low so that it's easy to top themselves later, but I don't want them to throw in some grandiose bullcrap just for the sake of making fanboy seats wet.

The movie gets a 7, the last fight was around a 6 for me, seemed like they blew most of budget on Ironman going back to that village.

I don't see why people were dissapointed in the final action scene. I thought it was awesome. It wasn't too short although I would've liked it longer.

I was happy with the final fight scene, yeah it could of been more but it was good.

I thought it was solid. Too many films try to make a final battle that's mute and action-packed. Here, they didn't forget that there are still characters underneath the suits. I liked that. Leave the truly jaw-dropping action for a sequel.

the thing about the fight scene is that it seemed like a typical comic book movie showdown. It wasn't bad but I expected some more consequences and action. But I don't blame Jon Faveru, this was his first big budget movie. I'm sure he'll step it up a notch next time.

Not bad, could've used more visibility (meaning, seeing what actually happens half the time) and lasted longer. Also, Obadiah just felt like the average "bad guy" character in the fight, which kinda made it less appealing. He wasn't sticking to his ideals, his own ends, his dreams, his own pleasure and needs, but rather simply being an evil madman at that point. It kinda made Obadiah Stane seem less realistic and more of a completely black (not the litteral sense of it) person, left without any shades of grey. It's like he had no morality or humanity in him at all. He just seemed clichéd, honestly.

But yeah, like I said, the fight wasn't that bad at all. On a scale of one to ten, I'd give the fight a 6.

talking about budget...
what is IM's budget?
I heard it's 300 million. I didn't believe.

the final fight had an ok plot about it

nothing about it was amazing tho

spiderman 2 and TF still fight for the title

(don't have to worry about begins or SR tho lol)

No place close. It's $135 million. When you think about all of the amazing stuff achieved in this film, it almost makes you wonder how SM3 went through $260 million like nothing.

Well i enjoyed it. The final flight was a little rushed, but good none the less. I think they had to spread out what they could with the budget they had. I'm sure with a bigger budget more could've been done but I don't want to get inti finding flaws in the film when their is no need to. I think it was pretty well done, and a good blend of action, drama and comedy. I'd give it a 9/10

I thought the final battle was just fine. Of course I would've liked it to be longer. But then again, I always want final showdowns to be longer. The final showdown lasts 30 minutes? Make it longer! :cmad:

Anyway, it was fun and brutal and Iron Monger just looked badass.

I think I agree with Louis Leterrier on this entire "final battle" issue. While 26 minutes sounds great, the audience will get bored after a brawl-to-end-them-all goes past 15.

Great fight. It was typical, sure, but that doesn't mean I can't enjoy two robots brawling ruthlessly. I also didn't expect that voice from Stane inside the suit.

iron mans voice was cool

Stanes voice was cheese, but it worked imo

Stane's voice sorta reminded me of the ED-209 from RoboCop. I liked it. Bridges has the sort of voice that sounds sinister if you distort it, which works great for Stane.

Personally, I really enjoyed this part. The battle was intense and brutal and really gave the feeling that Stark was in trouble. I liked how the whole way through, Stane tried to power his way to victory while Stark kept using multiple stategies like icing him over and having Pepper blast the guy. It really felt like an intelligently brutal battle.

Well technically Stark was in serious trouble since Stane stole the updated arc reactor model leaving Stark no choice but to use the originally prototype reactor that didn't have enough Power to power both The Iron Man (Mark III) suit and keep Tony's heart stabilized for too Long . :im:

I also don't understand the hate...I thought it was AWESOME!!!

I mean, there was a previous post I read in another thread which said it was in the same vein as the Fantastic Four fight from the first movie...which wasn't even a battle (Doom shot twice, they freeze him...done.)

Iron Man vs. Monger was leagues beyond that so called "Battle". And this was DEFINATELY a much more satisfying climax than what we ever got from the ENTIRE X-trilogy...you can't deny that.

The last fight (to me) was a7/10 compared the overall 8/10 I gave it. While the fight itself was not groundbreaking, I do think that Favreau was brilliant in accomplishing a couple things to satisfy the different kinds of fans;

1) The fans who want their hero to win convincingly; Well, he couldn't, not because he isn't good, but because he was compromised by the old arc reactor. Simple. These fans can go home saying, "if they were on an equal power level, Tony would have thrashed Iron Monger!".

2) The fans who want their damsels-in-distress to be a little bit more proactive (and how many times has this occured in a superhero film?); Well, if Pepper wasn't there, Tony would have died. And she went back into the fray, as the only one without any protection.

3) The fans who want the hero to win and save the day after getting a little beaten up; Tony still told Pepper what to do, so he was still in charge, even though he was getting beaten up!

4) The fans who want a hero (all 3 I think); Watch how slowly the Iron Monger takes to lift off - Were those rockets. Simply, Tony could have escaped at that point if he'd wanted! Tony is not a fairweather hero.
A part of this continues to the fact that Tony was quite simply prepared to sacrifice himself. I mean, if anything shows his character transformation, that did. Who would believe that of the Tony gampling in the casino, hmmm?

And Favreau managed to accomplish all of this without being corny or leaving plotholes (why was his armour compromised etc). Brilliant.

And come on, how predictable was the fight? I mean, I thought the ice would be the downfall of Iron Monger (and I'm sure I'm not in the minority), but actually, the ice did almost nothing actually...

And both their voices sounded incredible in the suits, I wish they'd spoken more. Personally, I loved Stane's chirp (faceplate up) about how he didn't think he'd enjoy this (referring to being in the Iron Monger suit). Somehow I think this was a little chirp to all the adults who think they shouldn't be enjoying a superhero film so much :woot:!

So all in all, including the fact that there was 2 uber-powerful 'robot-men' throwing down in a city street, the fight was fantastic!
