I was watching the one season cartoon series Wolverine & The XMEN, for a second time, and I noticed that it reminds me so much of DOFP in many ways. Could that mean that they stepped on that concept, where Wolverine is the leader, there is no Jean, there is connection between future and past (present), Sentinels all around, blah blah blah?

Not really, its just a completely different thing. It has the same amount of ties to both the 90's animated series and the comics, they are just adapting different bits.

For the film franchise it makes sense for Logan to go back in time and it isnt even known if he is leading them in the past. Xavier and Magneto are likely leading the future and the past.

He did watch the '92 X-Men series in preparation for the first film...

Actully I see a bit more influence from this than on 1990's animated show.Primaly I see DOFP as Bryan Singer's Interpetion of comic version of story made for big screen.

I see more of wolverine and the xmen than Xmen TAS . The fact that this movie leads to Apocalypes says it all. Also evolving Sentinals and no actual physical time travel.

I wouldn't be surprised if they were very familiar and aware of that series when writing DoFP. And it's a great series so I wouldn't mind.

Are any of the X-Men supposed to keep a Sentinel as a pet? Then probably not.

Would it be to far-fetched to think the creative team on Wolverine & The X-men knew the direction they were going with for the film? I'm really bad about timelines, anyone wanna work it out? :cwink:

You mean in 2009 during the time origins was released? No they probably had no idea

I think they want to avoid physical time travel because it would be perceived as a rip off of Terminator (what with the robots taking over the future).

And Harlan Ellison might sue somebody.

I don't think so. But I do think the creative team are aware of the X-Men cartoons, comics, videogames and anything that were shown to the public. They probably took some inspirations when making the film.

Yeah I think they used a lot of the various things you mentioned for inspiration, after all if it was just like the cartoon or comic. The story would be so predictable...

I just watched the last episode of WATXMEN and I should say it must be really a big coincidence with the direction they decided for season 2 comparing to the third part of this XMEN movie trilogy! They were gonna bring AoA after DOFP! Oh well, it doesn't matter any more. A great show was cancelled but we'll get the story, more or less, in the big screen.

I get the feeling they did look at the original comic book story for DoFP or, at the very least, Claremont explained it to them. And clearly they looked at the comic for The Wolverine. Also, they must at least have looked at the comics for First Class (with the final design of Magneto's helmet, Banshee's glider/wings/cape and even Magneto's raising of the submarine).

But in the past, not so much. It feels like they ignored the comics and even the cartoons for the most part. Otherwise we wouldn't get Jubilee making electrical charges (in the deleted scene for X2) rather than plasma baubles, the total absence of a firebird for Phoenix in X3, etc.

It certainly wouldn't hurt them to study the comics a bit more for background on some characters (Storm being the classic example). There's no excuse for not having a bit more of an idea about how characters fit into the mythos, and what their place and significance is within X-Men lore. Storm has been in the comics for 38 years - that's a lot of source material for reference and inspiration. Havok has been in the comics for 44 years. Scarlet Witch has been in the comics for 50 years.

Obviously they looked at the books beforehand. That or Bryan Singer and Chris Claremont have remarkably coincidental ideas about how to achieve time travel, as mind displacement hasn't been used in any of the X-Men cartoons, as far as I'm aware.

I think Wolverine and the X-men has many similarities with Last Stand and X-men movies in general:
1) Jean as 5 level mutant. In comics there is only Omega level mutants. In Last Stand screenwriters called it 5 level instead of Omega. The cartoon did the same.
2) Scene in Cyclops's memory - levitating cars near Grey's house. The scene look quite similar towards Last Stand opening scene.
3) Relationships between Rogue and Wolverine are based on X-men movies bond between Rogue and Logan

I think there are more similarities but these ones just popped out in my mind.

Blink, Bishop, Warpath are in Wolverine and the X-men and in the DOFP movie. Just saying. Only difference - Blink appears in the present as Magneto's acolyte.

Wolverine and the X-Men came out 3 years after X-Men: The Last Stand. So it would be the series that was influenced by the film...

And in turn Xmen DOFP draws some influence from the show, although its not as much as the Spectacular Spiderman show influence on Amazing Spiderman 2

I loved the 90's animated series. So much better than X-Men Evolution.
