Is Final Fantasy losing it??

Then what are you waiting for? Get a copy and start playing. That's an order!

Aww man, Whenever you have some spare cash. Get it!

Chrono Trigger was a great RPG. That was my first RPG. However with Final Fantasy, VII became my favorite when that came out, with VI in second.

FFXIII looks interesting, but to me the series hasn't been that great since IX. I never finished X at all, in fact it bored me to tears. The characters in XII didn't interest me either, so I never finished XII.

Of course truth be told, I only really play RPGs on the DS anymore, because I just don't have the time to play them like I used to with a family and kids and such. :(

My favorite FF games are in order of greatness:

1. Final Fantasy VIII
2. Final Fantasy IV
3. Final Fantasy Tactics

The three greatest games to come out of the franchise.

You must have a thing for "eight's."

VI and VII > Tactics .

Heh...could be.

I loved VI also...in fact Kefka is one of the greatest villians created for any video game...but so is Golbez.

I liked VII, but it was nowhere near my favorite. It was a good way to transition the series to the new generation of systems though.

It was leagues better than X and XII though.

Was wondering why VI and VII were absent from your critiques

XII's character's all looked the same to me. They all had the same face, but with different hair and clothes [and genders]. Fran was the only exception. I like my characters diverse, damn it Square.

I'm with you on that one. That is one reason why I loved IX, the characters were all different and interesting. Also the characters is why I love VIII, I just fell in love with the cast the first time I played through it.

X and XII were just such a let down to me, the story was dreadful and the characters boring.

FF Tactics just had me with the story, there were so many twists throughout the game that I was kept guessing. Then the final scene completely took me by surprise with the final twist to the story. It was just fantastically written.

Final Fantasy XIII I'm hoping will be good.
Final Fantasy Versus XIII looks freaking sweet and I can't wait for it.

Final Fantasy 7 is my favourite of the series, for me, nothing can top that. My brother does keep ranting on at me about how 12 is so much better than all the others. I've played it, but the story just doesn't hook me in at all.

I felt the same way. I tried to get into it, but I just couldn't. No matter how good the battle system supposedly was (and I didn't care for it), I just couldn't get into the plot and therefore only went as far as the desert before trading it in. I've read the rest of the plot on Wikipedia, doesn't seem like I'm missing out all that much.

Other than that in regards to games in the post-VI era, VII, VIII, and X were all great for me. Never cared for IX, never tried XI.

I'll give XIII a try, but from what I've read, I'm not overly interested. It seems like they are trying way too hard to re-capture Final Fantasy VII (even to the point where the producer ordered the character designers to make the main character a "female Cloud Strife.") and in doing so, they are pushing the sci-fi elements way too hard and will utlimately make something completely incoherrant because of it. All of this crap I am hearing about Cocoon and Sentient Crystals. It just sounds ridiculous. Its like they are trying to do Final Fantasy VII to the extreme (Cocoon being Midgar and the powers that control the high tech city being Shinra, and the Crystals being the equivilant to the Life Stream and the planet's attempts to protect itself from MEteor). I'm just not feeling it.

I'm far more interested in the mysterious Final Fantasy Versus XIII

Ha, I only made it about that far before I quit too. The battle system irritated me...I much prefer the ATB system that IV pioneered.

I loved IX because it brought me back to the different things I loved about IV, V, and VI. :)

I think I enjoyed the first Final Fantasy more so then XII, nothing about that game appeals to me. As far as my favourite I have to side with VII over VI, but only slightly. I still love all the Tactics games, cant wait for A2 to come out on the DS

apart from kingdom hearts i haven't played a FF game from VII, i would kill for a ps3 remake

man not liking all this FF XII hate. That has got to be one of my favorite RPGs ever. I need to get back to it someday bc I stopped the sidequests to go finish up the main story since it was taking so much of my time

well i do think that FF has sort of taken a hiatus from the things i like about it and the gaps with online version etc taking their toll, but FFXIII just looks like it willl turn the tide to me. it has a stylistic look similar to 8 which is my favorite stylistically. then the battle system goes back to the classic style that makes jrpgs jrpgs, but with animations and variety that sets a whole new standard, taking your commands and weaving them into a choreographed fight.

While game play and graphics may look good for XIII it still needs to give out on the most important aspect of a FF, and that's the plot and characters.

I've never played Kingdom Hearts. :csad:

It really is a good game, like he said, pick it up whenever you save up some cash.

And one thing I've really wanted to see is for them to remake FF7 with a battle system similar to KH, but with some of the elements of FF12 thrown in so it's got some turn based style and not as much button mashing. I think that would be a blast to play, just think of how much fun it would be to control Cloud while he's flipping around with that friggin huge sword!

I'd love for Sony to do that to FF8 too, because that was also my personal favorite of the series.

I personally didn't hate XII, but it took me awhile to care to finish it. The characters were meh, and so was the storyline IMO. The battle system was alright (tho I prefer the norm), and the side quests like Hunts were fine.

I think my main problem tho is that I picked it up at a bad time. I was completely burnt out on MMO's, and XII tried very hard to be one. I got to the Cid fight and just couldn't care enough to continue. About 2 or so months later I figured I bought the game and should finish it, and I powered thru to the end. It's not my worst RPG experience, but IMO it's a forgettable one.

I'll end it with saying that the only part I really enjoy is being solo before the castle. The second the story kicks in I start to lose interest, however I did like the solo Vaan orphan deal. Also was dissapointed that even tho she was dressed skimpy as she could be that Ashe still didn't register as hot lol.

Edit - Also, if I ever have to hear "Day manufactured nethersite" again....<grumbles>.
