This was all over the radio this morniing:

What's up with Alba lately? Alot in the Latina community are up in arms about her recent comments about her latin heritage. I for one didn't even know she was latina..nor do i care.

But shunning your roots is a little..well disrespectful to ones roots don't ya think?

One of many articles on the web.

http://www.mediatakeout.com/7187/jessica_alba_dont_call_me_a_latina.html

And some samples of the article:

Here are some of Jessica's other quotes concerning her ethnicity:

"Alba is my last name and I'm proud of that. But that's it. My grandparents were born in California, the same as my parents, and though I may be proud of my last name, I'm American. Throughout my whole life, I've never felt connected to one particular race or heritage, nor did I feel accepted by any. If you break it down, I'm less Latina than Cameron Diaz, whose father is Cuban. But people don't call her Latina because she's blonde".

"I've got cousins galore. Mexicans just spread all their seeds. And the women just pop them out."

"My grandfather was the only Mexican at his college, the only Hispanic person at work and the only one at the all-white country club. He tried to forget his Mexican roots, because he never wanted his kids to be made to feel different in America. He and my grandmother didn't speak Spanish to their children. Now, as a third-generation American, I feel as if I have finally cut loose."

"My whole life, when I was growing up, not one race has ever accepted me, ... So I never felt connected or attached to any race specifically. I had a very American upbringing, I feel American, and I don't speak Spanish. So, to say that I'm a Latin actress, OK, but it's not fitting; it would be insincere."

"My grandfather was the only one in our family to go to college. He made a choice not to speak Spanish in the house. He didn't want his kids to be different."

Less latina than Cameron Diaz? That's pretty non-latina right there. :o

Least they've still got J Lo, and she's still from the block...right?

Who cares?

Is she running for president?

Don't like Jessica Alba? Don't watch her movies. Problem solved.

The JAL-signal is lit!

Like I've said before, Jessica Alba only embraces her roots when it's convenient for her. At least she's not a hypocrite about it.

That proves quite difficult when she appears in an ensemble cast of brilliant actors

Okay, so that leaves... Sin City, which is AWESOME enough that she's tolerable for her 15 minutes of screen time... what else you got?

Idle Hands? The Ten?...

...

Flipper?

I think Idle Hands had a great cast for the movies content and The Ten also has a fantastic cast...your point...I'm trying to figure out what your trying to prove me wrong in?

My point is that the only really spectacular ensemble movie she's been in is Sin City... but if you want to consider Idle Hands a work of art, I'll not say anything.

Anyways, no, I think it looks slightly opportunistic to speak about her heritage, but I wouldn't consider her to be a sell-out.

I thought it was already established that Alba was annoying and not that bright.

I don't remember claiming Idle Hands to be a work of art...strange, never mind. I still find her an awful actress. It wouldn't deter me from seeing her movies if the premise was good.

I don't think she's a sell out. If she dosen't partake in her Latin heratage then so be it. But if she was to play it up in a situation after here expressing that she dosen't really care a whole bunch about it, then i would have an issue, but if she isn't active in her culture, big whoop, she's hardly a sell out.

Has she ever said she had a vonnection to the Latina community?

I don't care if she partakes in her heritage or not, it's her choice. My issue is the comments she made pisses all over other Latinas including her parents, siblings, great grandparents, ancestors, etc. If anything she should just avoid these kinda question altogether. Her PR ppl should prep her on how to answer certain questions. Race is a very sensitive subject in this country- she should know this.
