Seem like I remember a time when membership was way over 150,000??? What has happen?

People move on, get banned, etc. The membership of any forum will ebb and flow over time, much like everything else. Plus, people tend to join near the release of films, and back before superhero flicks became so huge, their releases were a bigger deal, so you saw more hype. More hype means more hypsters.
