Infinity War Is Shuri Truly Smarter Than Tony Stark?

I think from what we've seen, they are pretty even. Tony has a slight advantage because of age, world wide experience.
I mean, she didn't know there was already "sneakers"

But I think once she gets out into the rest of the world, and/or she works closely for a little while with Stark, she will sky rocket past him.

It's all relative really.

Ummmm...that was a pun, dude. She was making a joke

Did you see T'Challas face when she said it? He was going to say something about it, then said never mind.
She named them correctly, the shoes she made. But we can agree to disagree. When I watch it again, if I am wrong I will apologize & feel stupid. But at this point, I still think she thought she came up with that name. (Her invention fits the name way better anyway)

T'Challa made that face because it was an awful pun. Believe me, I make puns a mile a minute. I am used to that face.

Ok, so I just watched that part again, and I guess it's however the viewer sees it.

Her exact words were;

"Guess what I call them? Sneakers. Because you....never mind"

I still think he looks at her confused.
I figured it was showing in a tiny way that they really are in their own world & how they don't really pay much attention to the mundane things in the outside world.

Doesn't really matter. I only mentioned it as an example of how she still has learning to do, but once she experiences the rest of the world, I think she would absolutely be smarter than Stark. Age & experience.

I still don't see how you can be confused by that scene considering that they also reference "Back to the Future II" as the source of inspiration for the shoes.

They pay attention to and know what's going on in the outside world. Like others said it was just a bad pun by Shuri that T'Challa didn't find funny.

Whatever
It was just my opinion. I'll keep them out of Black Panther topics from now on I guess. :whatever:

The reason people are saying Shuri is smarter is because one of the producers outright said Shuri is the smartest person on earth and smarter than Tony Stark in an interview before the film came out.

Yeah... all this arguing seems kinda pointless. If Marvel says shes smarter, then she's smarter.

Eh, I still don't consider it canon. Especially when they don't have anything to back it up. Mind you, Tony built his first circuit board at 4, his first engine at 7, at 16 he won the robot design award at MIT, and then he graduated a year later from MIT at the top of his class.

Oh really? So we're not going to compare how each of them helped people with severe spinal injuries?

Ross was stabilized with a Kimoyo bead that Shuri designed and was walking around like nothing happened a day later. Rhodey is still walking around with cybernetic braces on his legs.

Wow, really dude?

Ignoring the fact that the producers have out right said Shuri is smarter.... I feel like it’s comparing apples to oranges.

Stark, when Iron Man 1 came out was in a world comparable to our own (although there are flying helicarriers that can cloak themselves).
In a somewhat comparable world, he could make Iron Man armour, and arc reactor, a miniature arc reactor, advanced AI, that Barf system was civil war.

Shuri was born and brought up in an advanced civilisation with, what the more we learn about Vibranium, basically seems to be magic metal that can do anything, anyone wants it to do. How old is Shuri supposed to be? 20? Wakanda has been an advanced civilisation for hundreds of years it seems. I’m guessing they needed cloaking technology as early as human beings could fly planes so, minimum a hundred years.

To me, Shuri, as smart as she is, seems to be standing on the shoulders of giants. Giants that had a magic metal.

Stark built a miniature arc reactor in a cave. With a box of scraps. Could Shuri do the same? Sure, probably.

But where they were brought up, with their respective levels of technologies kind of blurs the lines.

Having said all that, producers say Shuri....shrug.

Spielberg, a producer on the set of Back to the Future, also told reporters that the hover board existed and was going to be released soon, and we now know he was full of crap. So, producers have punked us before, and well, they are just producers, not creators. But then again, if Marvel is indeed going to have Shuri become more smarter than Tony, it could be the reason why Robert Downey Jr is stepping down. Bad enough they made him the bad guy in Civil War, now they are going to down play his character's credits for the new kids on the block.....

I agree. I’m not saying producers opinions are the be all and end all. Especially when the events of screen don’t seem to tally up with what they say.

My main point is simply, how can you compare anyone when they come from such technologically different societies.
We know what Tony Stark creates, we’ve been there from the beginning.

With Shuri, how advanced was technology in Wakanda before she started playing around with it. Without knowing that, it’s tough to compare the two.
We just have to sort of say ‘oh yeah, both are super smart’.

You do realize that when RDJ said he wanted to leave the role before it became embarrassing, he meant that he wants to stop before he wears out his welcome, right? He even made a reference to an athlete who gets booed off the court because he can't play anymore. He said nothing about Tony Stark being surpassed by newer characters, nor even implied that. All that nonsense came from you and you alone.

Is Iron Man something you’d like to be a part of your life and career in 20 years?

I’m definitely a hang up your jersey before they boo you off the court type guy, just because I still have an appropriate fear of embarrassment.

So what if Shuri is smarter than Stark? Why are there people so pressed over this?

Because said people are looking for ways to feel slighted and offended.

Also as someone has said Shuri has had the benefit of studying and working with something that's ultimately alien in nature (vibranium). Stark had the opportunity to do so and him not understanding the full nature of the unearthly tech which was in his grasp at that moment fully led to the Ultron incident.

Of course she is, just like Captain Marvel is objectively stronger than Thor. Why is this even a thread.

It wouldn't surprise me if she does end up being more of a genius than Stark or at the very least she is his equal as far as science and overall intelligence

Where are you getting this from? Why does it have to be one way or another? The way I see it happening if Tony meets Shuri, he's going to be nothing but supportive of her & they can work together teaching each other things.
I really don't think Marvel has screwed over many Characters in their movies to prop up another. If anything, they are great at having the characters "mesh" if that makes sense.
Also, have you read the Civil War comics? Just curious.

I think Tony will be just fine.

OK, since Black Panther hit, I have seen tons of articles, videos and whatnot about how Shuri is the new brains of the MCU. But does that really hold water? Just for arguments sake,
most of her inventions surround the vibranium technology. Take that away from her, would she have been just as successful in her inventions,
where as you take Tony, he built a mobile arc reactor and the first Iron-Man suit, in a cave using scraps and spare parts, and then, with the help of his deceased father, even created a new element all on his own.

HYDRA had comparable armor in the 1940s. Stark didn't build the arc reactor all by himself, he was working off his father and Anton Vanko's designs, which he was familiar with.

Both characters fall into the fairly typical omnidisciplinary-scientist-nigh-on-wizardry archetype.

Wakanda thinks big, though. In half a dozen movies the arc reactor technology was used just to power Stark's toys.

Heh, that's a point. While we're on this, friggin' Zola probably schools both of 'em.

Bio-mech arms in the 1944 (assuming the flashback in TWS is supposed to be the same year Bucky was first captured after the fall), little drone-like (though manned) rotor craft, tanks the size of buildings, that submarine - all stuff without the Tesseract.

Factor in the actual stone, and he's creating Star Wars rayguns not too dissimilar from what the Wakandans are using in BP on the vehicles, with regular German engineering from the 40s, just powered by an alien source.

Then uploading his freakin' brain/personality into a mainframe computer with about a thousand times less power than your smartphone. :oldrazz:

I'd assume Shuri is just slightly less genius than Stark. Stark created Ultron, when Shuri does anything similar to that, I'll commend her. She's smarter than Peter for sure by leagues, maybe even Bruce level. But not Stark. Stark is the pinnacle of knowledge in the MCU atm.
by accident with an all powerful McGuffin that had it's own computer programming(??) that Strucker was also working on(??) while a tie in comic says she developed an an AI all her self
